There is a J red E30 325i SE near my work place. Its bright red with 15" BBS and iS spoiler.
Its the cleanest example Ive evr come accross. Not one dent , scratch or blemish. The panels are glass smooth. It looks like it came out of the showroom yesterday!
Its Switchable Auto and its got the origional BMW system on it and it sounds so so sweet, infact i dont think ive evr heard an m20 sound so smooth. No ticky noises, just a smooth hum.
Dunno about mileage but assuming its around 120k whats this kinda car worth?
It really is the mintest of the mint and looks so bloody nice!
I want it!

If I got it for Ԛ£1500 I would be jumping up and down with Joy!
Ant recently bought a very nice E reg 325i in red for Ԛ£1800 and I thought that was a fair price.
If a mint sport is Ԛ£5000 I would say this is worth Ԛ£3000 all day long.
E30Adam sold a very mint 325i SE for Ԛ£2700+ on here last year.
This is a J reg aswell!
I hope this bloke thinks his car is worth only Ԛ£1500 aswell! Wil go to bank straight away ten sit there and look upon how straight the panels are!

So there is a wide agreement that a MINT showroom condition J reg 325i SE is worth Ԛ£3k less than an equivalent sport?

You know, I think its down to us guys to understand that there isnt actually that much of a price difference between the two cars. We should be increasing the value of the SE's and not saying they are worth so little.
Anyway, I would rather have a MINT SE for Ԛ£2000 than a MINT sport for Ԛ£5000.

Standard 325i SE's ARE worth less than Sports.
It's how it goes.
Sports are more sought after so their prices stay inflated. I know the SE's are great cars, less rot because of no bodykit, etc. blah blah blah, but more people would rather have a tasty Sport than a standard looking SE.
It's like comparing a Mk2 Golf GTi 8v to a 1.8 Driver or a 1.8 GTX - they're more or less exactly the same car, but the GTi's have better suspension, gearbox, interior, etc, just like the SE and the Sport. People pay more for the higher spec'd cars.
Giles.

see what you're saying geeman but iirc, the 1781cc 8v in the GTI golf has multi-point injection and a less restrictive exhaust manifold..giving circa 115bhpGeeman wrote:Standard 325i SE's ARE worth less than Sports.

the 1781cc lump fitted to the driver and GTX was a 90bhp single point injectionversion with a more restrictive version of the exhaust manifold
ergo, i'd say that the GTI is an entirely distinct car from other 1.8 8v mk2 golfs....
also, according to the thread currently running about 'how can i tell its a genuine sport' several sports didnt have elec pacs etc, so are not always higher specced?!?!

Sports are worth more then SE yes. But even a F reg rot box of a sport goes for Ԛ£2500 with monster miles. Surely a low mileage very high spec SE on a very late plate is worth just as much.
Performance is the same anyway!
All Im saying is that a brilliant SE is not worth less than half a sport. Thats just too much of a big gap.
Another thing, an F reg good nick high miles SE goes for around Ԛ£1400 on average. J reg low miles, MINT only worth Ԛ£600 more? You couldnt take an average e30 to a bodyshop and get it painted for Ԛ£600 to look like the mint car. See my point?

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. Put it this way then... SE's are bargains!

They are too...I don't believe for a minute that a mint SE is worth that much less than a mint sport. Auto's are always cheaper than the manuals for some reason though.Geeman wrote:Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. Put it this way then... SE's are bargains!
I liked Ant's statement the other day - take off the bodykit and it's worth Ԛ£2000 less
There is something a bit bling about the Sports - it was all I wanted when I was looking and I didn't even look at SEs. The fact is they come with all the extras you want out of the box in most cases, and there are quite a few decent spec SEs with Sport trim and LSDs out there which are the real bargains...
The rarity factor of the Sports appealed to me as much as anything - although they are not mega rare, how many good ones of the 4000 or so made are left that have not been ruined by chavs, rusted to feck, been crashed and badly repaired, modded to death etc etc
Sal if you get it for 2k it sounds like a bargain
Mark.

i see what ur saying sal, no a sport is not worth Ԛ£3k more than an SE.
but then i dont think a good sport is worth Ԛ£5k imo either.
the problem is we all know too much info.
a sport isnt that different from an se, but the buying public dictate the market prices and they probably see the sport as being that much better without actually knowing the full differences

"A minter asks its own price"
If it's in the condition you say then I'd probably pay Ԛ£3k for it, or at least Ԛ£2.5k, especially as it's on a J plate.

at "I was looking for pin dents and I coulndt even find one!", but you couldn't look through the window to see what the mileage was
comedy at its finest!
Sal......regarding the take a car to a paint shop to make it mint..... unfortunately this is not the way..... i believe the car should be on original paint to make it mint not painted and had bodywork.... which is why i call my car a 'shed' cos its had loadsa work...
