Ha ha, should've known everyone would wanna know that!!! Too tired to think about it properly!!!

Can't remember 100% but i think it is a stainless one - will obviously confirm before selling!!
As for the heatwrap, suppose it depends how it has been fixed. I would assume it could be removed, however, will confirm that too!!
Pic's - will be coming!! I'll be getting it back from Tee's place next Sat hopefully so pics and extra info after that!!

Just wanna know what people would think a fair price for it???
Don't wanna give it away, but i certainly don't want to rip anyone off!!

Magnex are stainless and worth a good £250 as they are good manifold. Alot of the cheap copies look like a magnex so beware!

its not worth it, unless we can get it out of ali's car and into yours in one day, as the reciever dryer will be mash-up otherwise... and im not spending half a day at alis then half a day at yours to get this done!

also, E30's run on R-12 gas, which has caused loads of grief in the past, am i right tee?

R12 indeed ! nice stuff, derived from mustard gas, in fact it is Mustard Gas if you burn it so no smokin guys !!!!

Magnex manifolds are maket as such @ the collectors BTW :thumb:

looks mild though in pic( bad eyes so not gospel OK !! ) and leave the soddin wrap on, heat is energy, keep it inside the manifold and in theory it will flow better

you should replace the dryer anyway?

Factory aircon will run on R134a anyway so no problems, but what a sh!t job to remove, let alone replace on an E30. I'm pulling it out of my breaker at the moment!

ehum,,,

stu,, the aircon will be left on the car when sold, Rob is going to buy the whole car as a rolling shell with air con,,, so wont get ruined, basically the shitter car with aircon still plummed in can be right next to robs car and thus the switchover will be right next to each other,, easier :)

as for me being a wanker,,,, well,,,by all means aza, you had first dibs, i dont mind cash either way, pay rob, rob can pay me for the car with A/C and ill sort out another manifold... no problem... after all you had dibs.. just hope you wernt expecting it for 50 quid or something lol ;)

btw rob, if stu and tee dont want to do it, i know a guy whos fitted on before who possibly wouldnt mind fitting it if you set aside tops 200£ for his troubles obviously if stu and tee are a bit sceptical about doing it, or wanted more then this may be another alturnative??

not meaning to tread on anyones toes here :)

Aza, you have first dibs on the mani - don't worry!!!

I have heard people say the a/c on e30's is rubbish - but i had it on my last 325 and it was spot on!!

What grief does R-12 cause then??

Can the a/c be swapped over in stages - a bit at a time, or does it all need to be hooked up together in 24hrs to avoid the receiver dryer being shaggeed??

Might even attempt it myself if i can do it a bit at a time - really want it on there for the summer!!!

What would a new receiver dryer cost??

Is there a better a/c system (or parts of) that can be fitted on the E30??

Get the feeling i should've started a seperate thread for this!!!!

Right guys, it all depends on the manufacturer of the the compressor and the part no. I had a list somewhere. Some can run 134 some cannot.

Yes rob it has to be done in one day strictly speaking but I know of many time a system has had no gas in it due to a leak, then the leak fixed and system regassed and no problems. As long as you seal the dryer when you remove it you should be ok. just dont want moisture getting in.

But anyway, air-con = heavey, more to go wrong, not too good in the e30's and...... at the speed you drive rob, just wind the window down! :D

Not bad to fit, but gotta take the dash out.

Ha ha!!!!

Used to agree, but having had it in the past, i was surprised how much i used it!!!
Window down is my normal choice tbh, but if it's raining, you get wet and the noise at mway speeds bugs me at times - and means i need to fit an even louder sound system!!

FX-56 is R12 drop in replacement.

R134a has diff condensing and superheat properties so a new dryer, oil change for the compressor and new HP switch are required, the new oil is supposed to coat the existing pipework in prep for the new gas, 134a has smaller molecules so is more prone to leaking out, even through good seals.

you may leave you A/C system open for ages, as long as its dehydrated on a Vac pump for a long time after(and holding down) otherwise the water will boil out into the vacuum and ruin the new charge.

HTH, been a few years since I used that info
