On a BMW you go stright to BMW and buy a starter motor and solenoid straight away.
On a Ford you try to bodge it, if this doesnt work then you go to he breakers yard in no apparent urgency.
On a BMW when a tyre goes down you get it fixed or a new tyre
On a Ford you buy a steel wheel from the breakers with a tyre with tread.
etc etc.. can anyone else see a pattern emerging here!
I'm sick of this bloody sierra!

...to be fair to Ford, they make cheap cars that people like (at the time) and they are not (nor ever have been)designed to last.
I'll get my coat.
A few years back I bought (privately) a 2nd hand Puma 1.7 16v (which was, as Daz would say, a Fooking ace car to drive) - it was *just* over 3 years old, and I noticed a small rust patch starting on the drivers door - it was rusting from the INSIDE-out.
I took it to a main dealer, they took one look and said 'Oh yes that'll be covered by warranty; let us just check with Ford H.O. and we'll book it in.'
A few months passed, so I chased them...
'oh yes erm Ford say it's not covered.....we are sorry.'
And then Ford have a HUGE customer complaints dept, whose sole job is to fob-off any complaints, by passing you around, saying no-one is here today, you'll have to take the car to the South-Pole to get it inspected, that it must have been a stone chip that wasn't treated (I replied 'but your main dealer garage said that was NOT the cause, and they've seen the car') yawn yawn etc etc
So the cars are OK, and can be very good. But I'll never buy one again.
........rant over...........
Having said all that, I put 20k miles on the Puma, and sold it for 50 GBP more than I paid for it

they are just cheap piles of sh!t...
one of the lead lecturers on my apprenticeship course used to design engines for Ford and he said they are the worst company to work for!! he now knows all the ins and outs of how they do things and steers well clear of them!!
the only decent thing they ever gave us was Cosworth and a few of RS models. other than that, i wouldnt go near them...

basically Costin and Duckworth modified Ford engines for racing; they were so good at it that Colin Chapman talked Ford into giving them money to develop an engine for them.....
