While searching for RH Topline alloys, I stumbled across this company...

TOPLINE - CLICK HERE

They make billet stuff and look like they produce hub-centric rings. I thought this might be useful for those of us that have Alpina reps with the plastic hub-centric rings that MAY cause the wheel wobble that some of us get...

Anyway, thought it might be useful. Will give them a ring later on today...

Shit... they're in the states. Didn't look at where they were from.

Will still contact them and see what they can do for us Alpina rep boys...

Just been digging around the web about Hub-centric rings, and there's quite a few retailers of these. They're all in the US though, but there's loads of rings to choose from.

Sometime (maybe this weekend) I'll take a wheel off and take some measurements for the hub centre and the bore of the wheel. Trouble is, these measurements need to be absolutely spot on, otherwise it's pointless replacing the existing plastic ones, becasue they'll just vibrate with the excess play if not measured properly.

Anyone got one of those measuring devices for the inside / outside of cylinders...? Might make it a little more easier / accurate.

I think you mean micrometer like this http://depts.washington.edu/shopweb/mac ... _large.jpg

Right hand side for inner measurements, left hand side for outer measurements.

Right... I've just ordered a digital vernier guage, so as soon as that comes, I'll measure my hub and wheel centres and order the correct rings.

I'll then report on here the outcome...

giles, make sure that you use the vernier carefully, and that is is zeroed acuratley. otherwise it could verywell screw up. read up about how to make sure it is aligned centrally with the bore on both axis' or your reading will be smaller than planned. best plan is to jsut gently wiggle it about (up and down, and side to side) on the inside bore untill you gain the highest reading, this should mean that you end up with a reliable reading, also make sure that all parts are clean aswell as all measuring faces on the caliper otherwise this can seriously affect the datum (reference point) and the zero which will then alter all reading from then on. always try to use reasonable pressure and try and keep the pressure as consistent as possible for best results.

hope that helps

p.s. if you already know this then i'm sure someone else will have learned something new

Cheers Chris!

I did an engineering degree (many years ago), so we were using these all the time in the workshops with the lathes, etc... but like you said, someone else might have learned something new today. 8)

Chaos... bugger adding unsprung weight! These are billet aluminium so won't be that much heavier than the plastic ones. Most of the ones that are available are actually plastic, only a few of the sizes are billet for some reason, but I'd rather cure the wheel wobble than worry about adding weight!

Cheers for the info though. :D

no probs giles, didn't realise that you're an engineer, just thought you sat on your arse in front of the pc all day colouring in. just you would be amazed at the amount of peoplein the offices at work that wouldn't even consider doing them things and wondering why just those little things made such a HUGE difference to thier work. like i said, at least everyone is now more knowledgeable.
