My insurance runs out next month and am fed up of getting stupid quotes for fully comp.

Who are you guys insured with ?

I'm 30 with no convictions, 2 years NCB, 1 claim 3 years ago, Cat 1 alarm, and I'm getting stupid quotes like £1000+ :x

Even my current classic policy wants nearly £700

Cheers,

Iain T

I do have an Oldham postcode (read race riots) so pretty much beirut.

I did lose my license but that was 10 years ago and wasn't drink driving so I don't need to declare it.

Worst quote was direct line, wanted just under £2000 :-x

Hi Iain,I have found that insurance gets cheaper as you grt older..lose your hair, grow a beard, that 316itouring cost me £189 full comp.,I am looking for quotes for the 320iSE(with declared 2.7perhaps)the best so far is Churchhill at £152...Daimler is on a classic policy via Lancaster at £95 last year, take care with a classic policy with regard to your NCB and milage though.Do not tell em you rag it round the *ring....

Iain, I had a similar problem when I was shopping 'round.
I'm 48, got 6yrs NCD, no points, 8k mls/yr, wife (48, no points) only drives it less than 500mls/yr.
Standard 320i Touring, garaged, secure parking at work.
Quotes ranged from £156 to >£900. Last 3 years I've been with MoreTh>n. They wanted £65 more than they did last year. That's like a 40% increase!
I'd like to know what the insurance industry thinks it's on. It's all a big con!

On the subject of con, I noticed on my new schedule today that the value of the car is "Market value". £200 excess? 1990 320i Touring? - if I claim, I'm not going to get a bean out of the robbing b******s then, am I?
Next year, I'm going TPF&T. If I should be unfortunate enough to bend it myself I'll stand the loss. If someone bends it for me, there's always NWNF solicitors.
Fully comp? Not worth a w**k! :cheese:

17 months time I'm 50. SAGA - bring it on!

..... And has anyone else noticed that some companies are actually charging more for TPF&T than for fully comp? Some even charge you stupid "administration fees" for any changes you wish to make during the life of the policy - ie. if you get married and the girlfriend becomes the wife you need (legally) to change her name?

Sorry for the rant, but the whole insurance rip-off boils my p1ss.
:x
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

They wouldn't give me a quote online either, I had to ring them quoting the reference number. Give them a call, you might be suprised? Are you over 25 by the way, because that makes a hell of a difference with classic car policies.

www.confused.com .....gives all the quotes at once from all the major companies

bung your details in and get all the major quotes back. I've just done mine and lowest for 318icab is £174, highest £1185. Nice to get lots of choices after typing in all those details..

im only 18, and ive been quoted 1100 for a 318i 2dr saloon. That was from elephant, so it bemuses me how people who are much older, are getting shafted for similar money!?

Does anyone know if that FootmanJames is likely to be interested in someone my age?

And i had never even thought about classic car insurance policies. Does anyone have any other good suggestions as to where to try for on of those?

Cheers Adam

I'm currently with Churchill -

1989 325i touring, 6000 miles per year, parked on a driveway
23 with 4yrs NCB, £610 TPF&T + an extra £50 to put my 20 year old girlfriend on the policy as named driver, which wasn't bad

confused was still bringing quotes in at £2995 TPF&T!!!!!!

there is an insurance search on autotrader's website, this brought Churchill up as the cheapest for me

I first got insured with Footman James last march on my old Mini Cooper for £135. When the tax ran out I started the restoration project, that's why I bought it, but then I needed a run about while the Mini was off the road, so I bought a Mercedes 190 and swapped the insurance over to that, no change in price, just swapped it over. I soon found out that if you have a car 15 years old or more, it qualifies for a classic car policy with them. The BMW fell into a specialist vehicle catagory so I had to cancel my exisiting policy and start a new one, so was quite happy when the guy came back with £168. I did a few goes on confused last night and it never found footman James at all. Give Footman a call, I can't promise you'll get what you're looking for but you never know.
