FNG seeks Touring knowledge
Moderator: martauto
Hi
Just found the Zone after looking for site dealing with E30's and so far I'm impressed.
Bit about me;
Started with beetles as a young lad, on to VW golf mk1 gti's and now have a 924S and mint golf mk1 driver.
I've often admired E30's and after seeing a mint silver touring with alpinas on near where I live decided that I have to have one.
I've had a few nightmares with rusty golfs in the past and thats why I bought the porker (hot dip galvanised goodness) where all my worries are mechanical.
Anyway I seek knowledge;
I know about the cars getting better corrosion protection after 87.
I know about the usual rust spots.
I know nothing about the engines and gearboxes. ie faults- symptoms. How long they go for. What goes wrong thats expensive. What to watch for with so many altered ones out there (ie new interior, alloys, add-on mods)
Are there any good anaylsis of the engines manufactur and materials etc?
Anyway I'm glad to see that the 2.7 apl on ebay was a bit of a dog as I was thinking of having a punt on it (sorry to say I liked the dual exhaust) but I'm sorry to see that I missed out on mk1gaz's car.
Lastly whats the name of the colour thats maybe like VW oak green but looks more bronzy when you get close???

Well you're both sick.
Tourings are solid cars and few seem to have proper rot on them. the 325's go on forever if half looked after. Engine,diff,gearbox should cover 250,000 at least before needing a possible freshen up!
the colour is malachite green

i agree, the only downer i have with mine is that its white.i hate white cars but it was the only one within easy reach at the time i needed itgcorky wrote:oh yes tourings are fab ,especially in malachite

quick note ,ive noticed the later cars (91-2 ish onwards like to rust). only difference with touring fault wise would be look at tailgate under window and look at rear of headlining for sag.,other than this its the usual e30 suspects..
if i had to get another it would be f,g,h reg 325 with as many goodies allready on because it can cost a bit looking for lsd/sport trim/cruisecon/aircon/ etc etc

Question:
With my 924S theres a sticker under the carpet of the boot with a list of the option codes on it. ie these then translate to what the car came with from the factory/dealer.
Is there a similar thing with E30??
Thx
