If you were offered a mint tech 1 sport or a mint tech 2, which would you choose. Lets say they were both worth the same amount of money, so it was just on style and drivability only. Which one would you choose and why? What are the main difference's between these motors?

Tech 1 every time, not because i have one but...
Tech 1 looks better, quicker (or feels it), a rawer drive, the original e30 sport and rarer
Just my humble opinion of coarse!

i mean if rarity didnt come into it, they were both worth the same amount of money! i think tech 2's look better, used to hate the look of a tech 1 but its grown on me now!

I guess like with a lot of things it come down to taste, but even if tech 1s were as plentiful as tech 2 id still go for the the tech 1.
Just a shame they love to rust so much, the fact that they are worth less means they fall into the wrong hands a lot more easily too.
Mark and Sal have both on there drive and from what Mark said Sal prefers the tech 1

Is it me or are most tech 1 owners and people who are into them 30+?
Just somthing ive noticed but i could be wrong.

it is a tricky one, i do like the look of the tech2's and having driven one i know they are very nice cars to drive. In my opinion they do have the more modern edge over the tech1's, lookswise i mean. Tech1's do how ever carry alot of reto cool and are becoming rarer all the time. I have never driven one so can not say how they compare to drive to be honest. But if it was on looks alone, i have to say Tech1, that retro cool does it for me everytime!

forget all this tech 1 crap. The tech 2 kit looks 100% the best bodykit for an E30 it's so good you would never think BMW designed it years after the car was launched
It's one of the best factory designed bodykits for any car imo.
Makes the car look a little more modern.
One in Sterling silver is my dream E30 slammed on BBS's like the old press photo

To be fair my next e30 will probably be a facelift of some sort, purely because i had my fair share of rust and i don't want something i have to worry about structurally mot time but even good face lift e30 are becoming rare these days.
Bollox simon, even your Alpina has a tech 1 kit onSimon13 wrote:forget all this tech 1 crap. The tech 2 kit looks 100% the best bodykit for an E30 it's so good you would never think BMW designed it years after the car was launched

Very good Oz, but i think the Alpina kit looks better!
i've driven both and theres nothing in it, tech 1 feels more alive and perky but will be no quicker than a sorted later car.
Tech 2's come with a better standard spec eg they all have power steering and electric windows for a start! There's some peasant spec tech 1's out there
Nothing turns heads like a nice tech 2!

come on, a tech 2 is old school aswell! When you see a nice tech 2 fleecing past you, they have this sheer style to them while staying retro cool!

True, i love um both really but the tech 1 did come with the better suspension in the shape of bilstein sport dampersdimebag_from_hell wrote:come on, a tech 2 is old school aswell! When you see a nice tech 2 fleecing past you, they have this sheer style to them while staying retro cool!
A more raw drive because they're older nad probably falling to bits!!!oguz327 wrote:Tech 1 every time, not because i have one but...

Only kidding. Tech 2 for me old boy although i do like the front splitter of the tech one.
Both are rusty turds.
But i if there was a totally standard, mint version of each side by side(as if), i would go for the earlyer car.
Shame that nearly all of them have been raped to death and fitted with -110mill springs.

Tech 2 to me look 'heavy', 'mean', 'gangster', 'phat'. I sound like a chav but love the look of a beefy tech 2.
Tech 1's look great also though.
As Job says, most of both versions have been shagged to death because they have fallen into council hands

I'm a tech1 owner and I'm 30+. The Tech1 is the aggressive bully of the e30 range; it was also the basis on the 325I which really made its mark.oguz327 wrote:Is it me or are most tech 1 owners and people who are into them 30+?
Just somthing ive noticed but i could be wrong.
The 325i Sport was the one to have, and all e30 drives ranging from the 316 tried to dress their cars like the Sport.
Please don't get me wrong, the Tech2 is a great car "BUT" does not have the same aggression and whaw factor like the Tech 1's.
The tech1 boasts a High compression engine, which meant slightly more toque and revy'er engine.
It's also finding modern classic status, where as the tech 2 are easier to come by.
Regards
Jay-T
Both fantastic cars.
The tech1 looks a little more retro in my opinion. Tech2 looks more modern.
Tech1 has a sleeker look to it whereas the tech2 looks fatter and heavier.
I've seen some very high spec tech1's, Ant's old car!
Tech1's put down more power than a tech2 and come with better dampers.
Oz's 2.7 looks fantastic with it's black wheels.
I think I'd have a tech 1 in black.
