I'd like to invest in a reset tool as I do all my own repairs and servicing.

From what I've heard some tools don't reset certain lights.

I believe there are several different lights that the tool needs to put out

- Oil Service
- Inspection
- Annual Service Clock Symbol
- Green Service Lights

I'd like a tool that will reset all of these symbols/lights.

What do people recommend?

Yeah I've seen a few different types on tehre but I don't want to spend money on one that's not going to put out/reset all the lights.

I have no trouble finding places that stock them, I'm just looking for peoples experiences of which tools will do all the lights.

I have no idea what brand mine is but looks pretty much the same as this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-Service-Light ... dZViewItem

We stock the draper one at my work, for £15 (that's what we sell it at) it's ok but feels a little flimsy. I'd be concerned it would get damaged in my toolbox. Fairly compact tho.

I think they are probably all the same circuits inside, just different casings?

I bought one similar to that from Eurocarparts. It's good - works on both older & later models (they have different diagnostics plugs). It's just a simple NE555 timer circuit inside, and some LEDs to confirm status. Saves you having to hold the wire on the plug for X seconds - and the possibility of accidental short circuits.

I've used the Draper one for the last five years with no problems at all.

Saves faffing about with bits of wire & trying to remember how long to hold them there for.

Just plug 'n' play. :)

The reset tool pictured on the ECP site appears to be different to the one I have.

Mine has a round plug on one end & a 'D' shaped plug at the other, an 'on/off' rocker switch in the centre of the body & LED's for service & oil.

I know that the different shaped plugs cater for E30, E34 & E36 because I've used it on those models. I can't vouch for other models.

It could be the ECP one is an upgraded version of mine :?

Check out Burcell's site Adam, he's got a step by step guide on it, if you need it.
