E30's cool ?
Moderator: martauto
I parked up the Sport the other day and this woman who works in our finance dept parked up at the same time and we walked in to the office together. Anyway she starts the
conversation with " I like your car Mark, it's really cool ".
Soon after getting his touring the other month, my dad was getting out of his car and this builder working on his neighbours house said " Nice car mate " to him and it made his day, he was really chuffed, as no one had said that to him for a while.
It got me wondering if anyone has had any examples of this sort of thing with their E30s.

People used to look at my first 325i Sport, but apart from mates, I didn't get comment, just appreciative looks.
However, with the Touring I got a few 'Nice car mate' etc from random people in the street and stuff.
In the main Brighton car park, there was this girl and guy in front walking, the guy said when he saw my Touring 'Now that, is a nice car'. I walked up and unlocked it and he was saying 'Is it yours/it's really nice' etc. Made me feel warm inside. Or was that the whole chicken I ate just before....?
Nice getting good comments about your cars anyway!

Get a fair few comments from my neighbours, always commenting how they like it.
One neighbour who has always been a bit of a moaner, She said "Gordon always knows when your coming down the road" to which I started to get the appology ready only for her to say "he loves the sound of it".
I nearly fainted.
Been asked if I want to sell it 8-10 times.
Verdict: Cooler than cool.

Yeah, iv had quite a few compliments. My mate keeps saying how good it looks parked in a car park compared with all the other cars. Ses it stands out.
A random guy stopped by me when i was parking and was like wow! I used to drive one of them. nice one mate.
Also had old guys saying to me, nice car mate, much better than all the other crap youngsters drive these days!!:chuckle:
A girl i know whose boyfriend drives an e36 318 IS ses that my car looks really nice!

Forgot to mention, the amount of times i've been asked if it's a m3
That's when you realise, mate you ain't got a scooby really, have you...
Shouldn't say it, but I once got asked if it was a m3, by some fool of a bloke at a petrol station...he said it sounded like it had a big engine in it. (my immediate reaction was, your a little lost aren't you mate)
So I told him it had a 3.5ltr lump tuned up to give 350bhp
Boy did I laugh, when i drove out.

The answer is yes.
Consider this, I drive to the local BMW dealership to buy parts, I park right outside the dealership not even in the car park (cos I'm only popping in!), I come out and find everyone who was looking at new beemers is now at mine including a couple of the salesmen. And no one cared I'd parked in the most stupid place ever. And the fitty on reception was having a good look too.
Because now a good one looks so much more special and unique, even people who can afford new beemers love them, but most thos people couldn't handle driving something that wasn't on a new plate, didn't have air con, and all the latest mod cons and actually required regular maintanence.

My 335i has had a lot of attention from neighbours, friends and people at work wanting to look round it and have rides in it, even though it still looks like a rusty turd!
A couple of parts guys at my local BMW dealer have had a good look at it too.
Even a guy in a car park last week, must have been 70 years old or more said "nice car fella!" I thought he was taking the michael at first!
I think it's the roll cage that attracts most people, it always gets commented on!
It is a nice feeling though, especially when you have done a lot of work on the car to make it how it is, boosts your pride.
I've had a couple of people ask if I'd sell it. Nooooooooo!
A girl, about 12 years old, who lives a few doors down from me walked past a while back and said quite randomly "you don't like slow cars do you!"
Made me chuckle!

I think when people see roll cages, they think maybe it's a race car or something! I think it's one of the things that gets noticed easily. When it's dark you can just see a big X in the rear window!DRIFTBOY wrote:

People usually ask either - Are you going to drive on tracks? (Yes)!
or - Do you intend crashing this? (Err.. No).

My mum had an E30 as a company car when I was 18 and I got to drive that around too. Yes I did crash it several times! Me out with my mates in a brand new BMW at 18 - loved it. And people would stop and look waving their hands and shouting as I speared past them,
"8O
I got my first own ten year old E30 when I was 21 and it had a private plate and was in great nick and, again got comments of admiration for the car which looked very new, and looks of indifference directed at, well... me...
Now that E30s are old, they get the 'almost a classic car' nod. For me personally this is a different buzz of sharing the enjoyment of the car when it was new. It's the buzz of appreciating quality and long lasting appeal. It's really interesting that so many E30zone members are so young. Just proves the point that many people feel new cars look really boring and it isn't just old farts that think so.
A friend of my mum's - a very style conscious fashion designer - he looked at my touring and gasped to her "Who's car is that? That's the most beautiful estate car ever made!" Considering this guy gets paid fortunes for deciding what things should look like, the tourings can take this as a considerable compliment.

I never had one comment driving the alpina before i took it off the road, only stares of what is that sort of look!
There was once this kid in an E30 318i behind me and i lip read him saying to his girlfriend "is that a real one" she shrugged her shoulders!
I used to get a few notes on the windscreen and people asking to sell in petrol stations when i had my sport
I was on a job a couple of summers ago and we had to park on the main road. When i finished work the was a note on the windscreen "Please don't park your classic bmw here, i've seen 3 cars written off parked here and i would hate to see this one crashed into"
i couldn't work out if they were being nice or flattering me into not parking outside their house!

A few years ago a guy working at a carpet place was helping me load the touring with laminate flooring for my kitchen. He said "nice care mate". His jaw hit the floor when I told him I only paid £3,750, he couldnt believ you could get so much car for such little money.

MY Tourer gets admired every morning, without fail when I drop the boys off at school.
Have to drive down a no through road to it and as I rumble down it doing about 20mph in second so many of the boys turn around to see whats coming!
Even school kids think it's cool even though it's an "old" car.
I think the E30 deserves lots of respect, and tends to get it too.
Funnily,i've sat there waiting to pick the boys up and you see a number of the local likely lads in their Saxo's wheel spinning and such like up the road, and barely anyone bothers to even look!
