Whilst browsing on here about a year ago (I've been away a while...Heater broke on my old cab...missus said children with blue lips unacceptable), I remember one member had a weird (yet strangely cool) rear light conversion (pic was on their signature thingy)...They were round, In the traditional Pininfarina stylee...I'm sure they annoyed many-a-purist...

Anyway, as the sun's coming back out, I'm back in the market for another cab (I was holding out for an M3, but 11-14k for a good one..not a chance), I can't afford 'The Holy Grail' (just mentioned), so I would like to buy a good 325 and do something to it that will make it stand out a bit...Now, I'm not into adding loads of plastic to what is already a superb looking car, but I didn't think that light conversion looked bad at all...Bottom line is I can't find any reference to them anywhere..Net, Mag's...you name i've tried...Pointers gratefully received.

I've had so little luck in finding this conversion, I was starting to think that he might just have been a Photoshop whizz!!

Thanks for that link, however, I have persued it before, even to the extent where they sent me some photo's of the 'pre-production mould'. It appears to be (and forgive me saying this) a poor 'insert' kind of attachment, I remember the one that was on here seemed perfectly smooooth...Very gratefull none the less.

Unless it was a relly good 'bog-job', which is probably the case, it could have been a replacement rear end...***ked if I know.

yup it's something along those lines, unfortunately! doing it yourself is obv more work, but more satisfying and cheaper - and you know exactly how it's been built :)

prep is key, and solid base before using the touch up filler to give the proper finish!

actually i think i am tempted to do this again to an e30 too, not for a while though. i remember one of my (non-car oriented) friends looking in confusion and saying "how did you fit round lights in the square hole?!" hahaha

"prep is key, and solid base before using the touch up filler to give the proper finish!".....Er...Love cars...Luuurve e30's.....wooooooosh (sound of Moofles' wise words whizzing over my head)...wouldn't know where to start mate, if the BMW e29 and a half doesn't exist, it would by the time I'd attempted any of that

lol if only i'd thought to say "it's just magic, accept it"

alanpina don't worry about it, i probably wasn't saying it in the right way anyway, basically to put them in the shop wants to use:
a) the highest psi bonder they can find to bond the lights to the car (after prepping each surface for maximum "bondness" )
b) some fibreglass (i used fibreglass paste, which is almost like premixed fibreglass in that it isn't "cloth and liquid") to fill the majority of the crack between car/light
c) some easy sand filler to fill in little spots and give a good finish

it takes a while but you get a good finish :)

haha! i like it...obviously. but only when stuff is nicely done, like they looked gay and chav and out of place when they weren't blended in, but to me they are completely different if they are done like that as part of the bodywork :)

so ner!
