Hi everybody, im likeing the zone a lot!!
I am looking to buy an E30 this summer (i wouldnt consider any other car of course!) One problem, i am 17, can anybody recomend a good engine for chap insurance, or how to lower insurance!!!
Any help would be great thanks!!
personally i dont think id get insured on a e30 if i was 17, but to have any chance of getting at least an expensive quote is to go on your dad's insurance use all his NCB's and get a 316 or at the most 318i with www.privilege.co.uk
but good luck!

Would have to be a 4 pot 316/318i mate.......only way to keep costs down for a while

im also 17 and own a 318i its not insured at the mo but hae found quotes for Ԛ£800 in my mums name and Ԛ£1000 in my name
i posted this question not to long ago and got a very promising reply from someone about how to lower it more. i will try to find it and copy it into this section

regulars will have heard this countless times from me matt, cos i seem to be the only one anywhere to have such a good deal on my insurance. I had a 318i cabby when I was 18 (now 19). You must do the following for what i believe to be a deal that won't be around forever as its insanelty cheap - unless of course ant's 'idea' is better:
1. Take your test and buy insurance from N.U. in your name with the excess jacked right up (you don't want to claim on a 318i e30 unless its REALLY special as the value of the car will be less than the premim - so you want as low a premium as you can get with as high an excess as possible (Ԛ£1120) on the basis that you will never be claiming and therefore never paying the excess, whereas you WILL be paying the annual premium). Make sure you buy their RAPID BONUS SCHEME policy which is 9 months equals a year of NCB.
2.Straight away you will receive info from N.U. Phone them up with regards their Pass Plus deal with BSM. If you do this, you pay N.U. Ԛ£90 and they put you through a Pass Plus in assocation with BSM.
3. Under this scheme N.U. will then give you your first years NCB straight away and refund you the difference between your new premium and what you originally paid.
In my case my initial premium for my cabby was approx. Ԛ£1400, after the pass plus rebate, it was approx. Ԛ£800 and I got about Ԛ£550 back from N.U. So as far as I see it anyone who doesn't take advantage of this deal is insane.
I have been insuring this car for 10 months, at my last renewal which was last month, I paid Ԛ£480! This is fully comp on a beemer cab at the age of 18. There are 30 year olds who pay more for that on a focus in London. So it really is worth it. By the time you are 20/21 you will have full NCB which means a 325 is a real proposition, not a killer like it would be for most of that age.
hope that helps

I found out on my renewal this year that its a really good idea to mention your part of an owners club. I got a chunk knocked off my quote when i mentioned i was part of e30zone and go along to shows and stuff, thats with adrian flux.
Also dont think that if you fit a cat 1 alarm system its going to bring your insurance down because ive found out it doesnt, only if the insurer specifies the car needs one.

Hi again, sorry if this is an obvious question, but what is N.U.? Is it an insurance company?

I came across this when I was 19/20ish with an Astra GTE,they told me I needed a CAT 1 Thatcham job.Si316 wrote:I found out on my renewal this year that its a really good idea to mention your part of an owners club. When I looked into doing this,it cost the same to insure it without the CAT 1 as it did the cost of insurance plus the CAT 1.
The car had a hidden immob anyway,so I just insured it 3rd party only and saved the hassel of buggering around getting one fitted.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
Also try elephant.co.uk
Im 19 and on my dads insurance at the mo but it runs out in a few months so i've been looking at insuring my car in my name.
Its a 1.8 2-door, and ive got a qoute of Ԛ£800 TPFT, it also lowers it if you add a female as a named driver, so im going to do this aswell.
