Recommended bodywork garages/people - North London
Moderator: martauto
Hi guys,
Been aching to get my bodywork up to scratch for ages now. Said to myself I'd definitely get it sorted before Christmas, and I'm sure before I know it Christmas will be here along with the rain, snow and salt on the roads, so I'm keen to get the rust issues sorted before it gets worse (along with a few other bodywork issues).
I have a guy in Coventry (used to go uni there) who I am planning to get the work done because I trust him in doing a good job for a good price but was curious to know if any zoners could recommend someone a bit more local to me.
I live in Finchley - North London.
Will be on a bit of a budget but looking for a good job still. Like I said, I've got a guy in Coventry but might be a bit more convenient for me if there was someone a bit closer.
Cheers!
Nick

Thanks for the PM mate. I appreciate your help!
Just looked up the post code and was looking for somewhere a bit closer really. It only takes me about an hour and a half to get up to Coventry so I was looking for somewhere close enough to warrant not going to my guy in Coventry.
Might still keep the place in mind though. Seems to have done a good job on your Dad's M3.
Any other suggested places for my area?

Hi Nick
I live in Muswell Hill.
I recommend you call a guy called Saul (Tel: 020 8365 9379). He is based on the Millmead Industrial Estate which is about 10 minutes walk from Tottenham Hale Tube Station.
Saul usually does all the prep work for paint jobs and then sub-contracts to another guy on the Estate called Jack. Jack is very good and reasonable in terms of price. His number is 07958 387587 if you want to contact him directly.
By the way, there is a hardcore E30 guy in Finchley. His name is G. (Tel: 07711 953274) He's not a Zoner but he knows people who can supply all manner of E30 parts. He also uses Saul / Jack quite a lot. I think you will find that Shaz (Zoner) also uses Saul.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys. Like I said I will try to PM Dips soon.
Mahmood, think I might also give your guy a ring then go and pay him a visit sometime soon with my car so I can get a quote. Shouldn't take too long to get to.
Yeah I spoke to G the other week. He got me to pull over after seeing me in my car. Seems ok but I'm quite happy trying to source parts from the zone at the moment, although I'm mainly saving to get bodywork and some mechanical bits sorted. Isn't he also setting up a website? Swapped numbers and stuff but not heard from nor contacted him.
Cheers!!!

Kos, simple answer: Yesmahmood mate,

Nick asked for
hence my recommendation.Recommended bodywork garages/people - North London
Indeed, I did not recommend Dips because (a) you must be a dead Zoner if you don't know that Dips is the man for bodywork and (b) Oz and Ali had already recommended in this very thread him before I replied.
Dips did a fantastic job on my car but Nick did say he is/was looking for someone in North London.
Once my car is finally completed (further mods. this month
End of.

My brother does both mechanical and bodywork. My cars just been sprayed and I'm confident enough to put his work up against anyone else. What you have to take into consideration is how well the car's been prepared as this will show after time. Any car will look good after a fresh paint job but after time issues such as paint sinking, filler cracking and lacquer going dull etc will show and as we all know re-spraying your car isn't cheap so you want a job to last.
I'm prepared to put pictures up of my car on here but to be honest to really appreciate someone's work you have to see it in the flesh. (This was confirmed with past posts of people criticising the red 6 series at the pod. It looked good to me on here but apparanlty it was covered in runs etc.) To be honest I didn't see it in the flesh so can't comment. However I was at the Gaydon show and saw some vehicles which didn't look as fresh in the real as on pictures on the zone.
Also as with anything else it depends on what you want to spend. The more your prepared to spend the better the finished article. My vehicles been prepared and completed with better quality materials. e.g. primered with Glasruit, base coat with Standox, lacquered with Glasruit and finished off using 3M gear. (Used on vehicles such as Ferrari's and Lambo's which my bro commonly paints as some people on the zone will confirm). Using such materials would therefore reflect in the price as they cost more. Don't get me wrong he is competitvely priced as he would go out of business but if you want a quote he would have to see the car to confirm what work would be involved in preparation give a more accurate price.

Thanks for the pointers dude.
So where is your brother based?
At the moment I'm not looking for a full respray although it could do with one but I don't have the cash for it at the moment. Would rather get it relatively fresh looking bodywork wise but still have cash to do mechanical mods.
