Do any of you have the means of (or know how to go about) checking a vehicles mileage?
I'm not sure how serious I am about the car yet so I don't want to shell out for an HPI check unless I have to. The car in question is a BMW for which I have the reg and chassis numbers. BMW UK told me the spec of the car but had no listed main dealer services at all to compare the mileage against. They put me in touch with the dealership who originally supplied it but they had nothing either.
Sounds a bit suspect which is a shame, but can anyone help?

My car is the same - Its never been into an APPROVED BMW garage, so BMW wont know if its ever been serviced. Thats not to say it hasnt been taken care of though... mine certainly has thru the years. You have to use your initiative and common sence and best judgement if a car has no Service history. Body wise mine was great when i bought it, sod all rust and she looked nice and straight. Engine ran well with no idling problems and no noises, and had a wallet of reciepts for work that had been done so usng the best judgement i had at the start of my E30 history, i bought it. Would i have bought the same car knowing what i know now???? Yes, but i wouldnt have paid so much for it probably. She's a good solid reliable car though and therefore a good intro to e30s for me.
Just use your head mate and if in doubt, take a fellow zoner to see it for their opinion!

if there is nothing paperlike to back up the mileage, the best thing to do is go by instinct.. how does it drive/sound/look. What is the bodywork/interior like? Stick your hands under the rear arches n see if they've been cleaned, the dirt traps moisture but also only someone who looks after their car will bother with it!! (mine are 99% time v v clean)
