Hi guys check this out, this is a sort of thing i built 3 years ago using an old K & N filter with a black and decker home handheld hoover fan with heavy mods e.t.c using the cowling of a PC fan molded to fit a silicone hose.. and theres this company doing it selling on ebay... what you reckon this thing works????
is there real power gains? has anyone tried it? the one i built just sits in the garage unfinished but its all there ready to fit and eventuallyt lost interest..

That's a total waste of money, more of an airflow restriction than anything else
That piddling little DC motor isn't going to supply anywhere near the amount of power needed to get that to work, hence why superchargers are engine driven.

it was in one of the mags not long back they tested it on an mr2 and it actually lost some power a proper waste of cash
loving the ad. all the car owners making informed comments on the product then mr corsa just says "phat"

im so sexy justin brought me back 5 times
There is an urban legend around here about sum guys who strapped an industrial air blower from an extraction system to the intake of a V6 commodore. Hooked up with a on off switch they took the car down the freeway and switched it on at around 100 kmh giving a giant boost of power and holding the throttle butterfly wide open so they couldnt slow down until they switched the thing off. Anyway those tiny ebay fans would be nothing more than a restriction in the airflow. Although technically the whole idea is not completely rediculous in my oppinion.

Better idea would be to have one blowing into your air intake, and the other sucking air out of the end of your exhaust, = twin turbo
now this set up should generate some serious power, i was thinking about it but not gonna do it until i get my rear wing set up correctly as i fear the amount of power generated may cause the car to become unstable at speeds in excess of 230-270kmph.

there is no way that little dc motor can push more air into a m20 then the m20 would be sucking in NA. and it certinly will not make any boost of any kind. That being said i put a Y conection on the intake boot of my 535i and hooked up a marine blower to the other end and i swear the thing pulled harder at lower rpms i didn't want to believe it but it did of course any thing over 2500rpms felt no different at all. but it is crap and you shouldn't wast your money

Lets just take into account of something here.
Your average normally aspirated engine, when running at say, 6000 rpm at WOT (wide open throttle) will consume enough air in 1 second to fill the average sized living room in an average semi detatched house.
A turbocharged vehicle running 20psi of boost at 6000 rpm will consume at least 10 times more than the normally aspirated engine.
Now tell me, how is a little pissy electric fan going to generate enough air pressure and flow enough in terms of cfm for it to be actually useable? its not ;)

as i said you need one sucking out through the exhaust, no way one fan alone will work
