common problem dude.
check the rubber seal round the light cluster.

The water can also be condensation from the inside of the 1/4 panel running down and collecting - spent ages looking for the leak on my Sport, but there wasnt one. The sunroof drain is also a favourite, but that shouldnt be a problem for you
In the bottom of the 'well' is a rubber bung. There should be a hole in the bung to let water out but they block up easy and the water collects.
Poke a small screwdriver through the bung (the thing with the golf tee in it) to open it back up again.

how can anyone play a decent round of golf in such a small place?

bought my 88 325i three weeks ago.
the boot was getting wet.the cover over the battery.
i replaced the boot seal. problem solved.
never did like golf much anyway.
and i f-ckin hate swimming.
