i have a e30 325i motorsport convertible which is what i thought i bought. its a 1988 F plate, early tail lights, macca blue, motorsport grey leather interior and console. it has not got M-tech bumpers, but there not chrome they are body coloured. because of this i dont think it is a motorsport. But the previous owner got a print out from bmw and this showed the options along with MOTORSPORT. A friend said because it hasn't got the bumpers its not a motorsport is this true?

i was under the impression that they didn't make the factory motorsports cab until 1990, but no reason why your car was not specced up to a motorsport as an option.
does it have an LSD? is it a manual or an auto?
i also cannot see why an older one is not as desireable, if its in good nick a Mk1 should be just as desireable as a Mk2, whether you prefer the looks is sdown to personal taste, i prefer a tech 1 sport to a tech 2 tin top, but have a tech2 kit on my cab, all down to taste.

my e30 convertible (motorsport?) does have lsd. i've also got a 325 touring in black with cream leather recaro type interior. the convertible sounds louder through the revs, could this be a larger throttle bodie that a motorsport would have? i'm thinking of putting a tech 2 kit on it soon. the only problem is the rear tail lights because there different to the mk2 it wont be looking as good as a mk2 motorsport cab. thats stopping me from changing the bumpers and skirts, or should i just leave it as it is?

the motorsport has exactly the same engine as the non-motorsport. only differnces are the body kit, a LSD, and a closer ration manual gearbox in 1st 2nd 3rd only. plus some other interior trim changes, but engine is same.
the tech 2 kit will fit on there but you may need to do some lower valance mods, personally i would keep it original, tech 1's are becoming rare and the a tech 1 cab is even rarer still. dont mod is keep it original.

The Motorsport cab is a BMW UK idea: With different options each models and could specify other parts if wanted
In BMWCC mag an article was written to break down all to look for...if you are a member they might be able to send you a copy
Mechanically engine is a standard 325 with bolt on bit and LSD etc But exterior look is:
40 originally made in Macau blue and silver motorsport leather - no body kit
250 next edition in Macau and Nagoro Silver again silver M leather - no body kit - colour coded bumpers MTech 1 parts, st wheel, suspension etc
250 next edition in Macau and Sebring Grey with Bubble leather and MT2 kit and MT suspension etc
50 last ones in Calypso Red and Mauritious Blue with white leather and MT2
Thats not all the spec but should help
Car is worth what someone will pay..only problem being some early cars have hydraulic roof which can give trouble...but who is to say what an old car is worth...depends on so many things

Very good link Dave.
The middle batch had a sticky label under the rear bench to tell you the number in the run out of 250.
