After various bouts of roundabout and junction induced unwanted hero cock action today and a four wheel slide under reasonable braking which nearly put me up the arse of the blandmobile in front, I have decided that my (t)rusty steed needs a new set of boots (well, at least a change from the current combination of vredestein/nankang suicide rubber).

I'm running 14" bottletops (it's only a 320) - 195/65 x 14 is the size I want.

My question is - what do you reckon are the best tyres for wet conditions?

Dry grip (while good) is not a major issue as I treat the old girl with a bit of tenderness these days.

Thanking Yow in advance

i had nankang wrongness on the 325 and put some uniroyal rainsport on the rears, the difference was like night and day.

It was even difficult to get the rear to spin up or slide in the wet, it would push the front end on, which was still on nankang

would defo buy them again

prob not too dear in your size either

I always recommend - micheil pilot exaltos - I imagine they are avialable in the size you want - they are expensive but they last and grip.

"They are significant contribution to road saftey" (if anyone is old enough to remember that advert)

Goodyear Eagle Venturas are cheapish but VERY good in the wet; I've got them on a slightly lighter car than an E30, so I don't know if they do them in the correct load index.

have a look at mytyres.com to get an idea of prices.

Were the Vredsteins good when new? (I've heard good things about them)

Michelin Pilots are a good bet, but to be honest, for the money you will need to spend on some tyres you may as well get a set of 15" BBS with decent used tyres on, won't cost any more, but will be an improvement on the bottletops.

Uni-Royal's...as mentioned...they are a rain tyre company after all
Kumho-KU31...not sure if you will get the "KU31" in that size but these handle like your still in the dry...fantastic :thumb:

I have Khumo's on, and for a cheap tyre they are not too bad. quite progresive when they slide in the wet.

also, I have experience of Yokahama AVS Sport and the wet grip is tragic, excellent dry grip due to the soft compund but no better than nankang in the wet

Kuhmos are meant to be quite good but i have never used them I had a set of yoko parada spec 2's on my old wheels and they were ace in wet and dry. really soft though. Couldn't get them for 15's so I have BF Goodrich profiler's at the moment and they seem pretty good all round. I just asked my local tire place what he thought was a decent all rounder and i know him pretty well so he wouldn't rip me off. Infact he put the yokos on his car when i put them on mine.

Cheers for the replies fellas

It looks like all of the tyres you've suggested are not available in the size I want or staggeringly expensive so I think I'm gonna go after a set of 15" bbs with decent tyres on as Theo suggested.

Only one on fella, front left - front right is a falken, backs are nancraps and the spare is a remould 8O

All were part worn when I bought the car a few months ago.

I've bought a few sets of these in the past - hold out for the genuine article; they are stronger and lighter than the later copies.

look for these markings, and these only IMHO
