What would be the best tyres avialable for my M3. Whilst driving the car through run in period the tyres seemed to let the car down through corners without pushing the car to its limits. So this maybe a problem at the limit.

Money no object. In for a penny in for a pound.

Cheers dale. :D

Goodyear F1 GSD3's are a great all rounder, good in the wet and dry, but wear rate isn't great.

For more dry than wet, Yokohama Paradas!

are u sure u want them? Dunlop have just released a new road legal cut slick for people who don't have the room to carry a spare set to track days. They will be dodgey in the wet, won't last long but i doubt u will find any better for dry grip

Dale, go for R888's - your not really gunna use that car in the wet and the grip those tyres offer is amazing.

I drove an M3 with a similar spec to yours the other day with these tyres and they are awesome!

They wont last long and their not cheap but as you say - moneys no object :D

Have a loock at Michelin Cup tyres, not really 100% sure on this but i would guess they are not far off the R888's and are about twice the price!

Yokohama Parada Spec 2's. I don't think you'll find a better road tyre short of semi slicks (like the R888's)and the pattern they have is like a cross between a road tyre and a semi slick anyway. They are also surprisingly good in the wet, far better than their tred pattern suggest. They are a significant step up up from your usual Toyo T1R, Goodyear GSD3's, Pilot Sports etc in my opinion.

Im truely gutted they don't make them in 15's and im seriously considering chaging to 16's just to be able to use to this tyre.

putting my 10 penceworth in here..

on the Yoko site it says

'Bigger. Badder. Better. Yokohama's Parada Spec-2 defines tuner-performance standards by exceeding expectations for performance and looks. Parada Spec-2 raises the bar on the premium performance offering for street tuners.'

Any tyre that says anything about 'looks' makes me think they should have put more R&D into grip instead. I haven't had Yokos for years, but I did run Goodyear F1 GSD3s on a performance car; they lasted longer than expected, and the grip in the rain is fantastic seeing that there are very few 'cuts' in the rubber compared to most tread patterns. The grip in the dry is truely inspiring; huge confidence in bunging the car into any corner, and knowing it will be your skill (or lack of it) that is the only thing you have to worry about.

After the GSD3s, I switched to P-zero assymetricos, as a friend raves about them; they are nowhere near as good, wet or dry. The P-zeros are very predictable in the wet, but they move SO MUCH SOONER than the GSD3s, even though the tread pattern suggests otherwise.

It's all down to the compound, and Goodyear have got it right.

As soon as I've worn the P-zeros down, I'll be back on GSD3s.

Looks like i know what tyres to get when my 16" schnitzers have been refurbed!!!

I ran Goodyear F1's on my 8 for a bit, then moved onto toyo's and found them to be just as good!!!
That 8 will eat any tyres in a few months with me driving winkeye

I don't normally trust tyre-tests on a website, but tyre-test.com says
(the lower the number, the better)

grip in dry / braking in dry / grip in wet / braking in wet / wear
F1 GSD3 1.6 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.1 / 3.1
Parada 1.9 / 1.9 / 3.6 / 3.6 / 3.7

A clear winner for Goodyear..... though this doesn't say Parada 2, the tread pattern looks the same.

who has actually run some Paradas?

You can't compare P-Zero Asim's with GSD3's mate. GSD3's are Goodyear's "top" performance road tyre, the equivalent Pirelli P-Zero's are the Nero's. Asim's are for a good tyre for your everyday car only, but they aint nothing special and nor do they claim to be Pirelli's "top" tyre.

What does the site say about Toyo T1R's Pirelli P0 Nero's? The Parada Spec 2''s make the Toyo T1R's look silly from personal experience.

The Toyo Proxes T1-R on the same website come out as
1.3 / 1.5 / 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's good!

oh no - I might have to try out the Toyos....

Mike - I'm puzzled about what you said about Pirelli

they make the Nero in V-rated, as well as W Y and ZR
they only make the Assyimetrico in W Y and ZR. This implies the Nero is the lesser tyre? Their website doesn't say one is better than the other?

Yes mate hence why im raving about them. I did some research into this a few years back and this is what was being said at the time. People who tried the Nero's said they were an improvement over the Asim's. I tend to drive my car quite hard so I only tend to listen to people's opinion who I KNOW drive their cars hard also when it came to rubber.

In either case even if you forget the rest and go by the figure's quoted by that site you will see the Toyo T1R's came out on top of the GSD3's. From personaly experience I can say without question the Parada Spec 2's are a significant step uo from the Toyo's T1R's. I recon I could hold another 15% more speed through the corner using the Parada Spec 2's in comparison to the Toyo T1R's. Traction was brilliant in comparison and what truely got me about the Parada's, I was accelerating probably 2 or 3 car lengths earlier in corners.

I have a very twisty country road near me which I use for testing so I know the road like the back of my hand hence why I could make a good comparison between these tyre's on this run.

I should probaly also point out that we found what makes a good tyre on 1 car does not necesarily make a good tyre for another car. The T1R's are better than the T1S's but my mate found in his Accord the T1S's were more suitable for his driving style and the chracteristics of the car.

now that is good info - someone who has actually tried them back-to-back.

I've looked into the data behind tyretest.com and there are not ENOUGH tests on the Paradas to be a reliable result, whereas they've done 1000's of KMs on the Goodyears and the Toyos.

The Paradas might well be the better tyre..... but I still won't be buying any, as the wife drives the car fast, and I want the best tyre in the wet I can find.

Toyo T1-R is da bomb when it comes to grip,
not really for drifting
With great challenges comes great engineering.

I had T1-Rs before and now i have GSD3s. The GSD3s don't seem to offer as much grip as the toyos. But are alot better in the wet unlike the Aybe the next step up is R888s winkeye

Ha ha, thought i'd made a decision on Paradas then, but after reading this i might go for toyo's!!!
Although maybe i should try the paradas and see what happens!!

Anyone know approximate relative prices??
Are the paradas and toyo's similarly priced??

Should be all around the same price. I was paying around £100 per corner on 215/40/17's.

One good thing about having 15's is getting Toyo T1R's for £50 a corner 8) 8) 8) 8)

Just one thing check that the new tyres will fit,. I was recommended tyres by people on another thread and they rub on full lock as the tyre wall isnt as straight as the tyres I previously had
