Wheelspinning
Moderator: martauto
I am just wondering what engine size your E30 car needs as stock in order to get it to wheelspin with 15" wheels from pulling out of a junction, it is difficult to do in my 323i, god knows what it would be like on a 320i

No worries wheel spinning my 320i cab
this question makes little sense wheel spin out of a corner all depends on the entry. there is no benefit in spinnin the wheels once your leaving a corner as the car should be lined up well by this stage and all you will acheive is slowing down. wheel spin before the apex is what u want for an impressive slide.
in my oppinion on exit of a corner if wheel spin hasnt happened yet you are travelling at a decent speed and are pulling very minimal sideways G's so with good tyres and good road surface you would need more than an average e30 has to offer in the way of power to break traction. If your car is set up well. having an LSD would make this much harder also. 325i would do it with provocation by droppin the clutch maybe but u be taking a slow line through the corner which is pointless and no fun. try putting it well sideways before the corner then your having fun ... if u can do it and not find the gutter.

i swear mine is just wrong, doesnt have the torque my old IS had, which sounds very familier to what yours has!
off topic,,, this is making me more and more aware of how potentially cruddy my engine is,, can someone from the guildford boys have a looksy please

My old 320i would wheelspin with very little effort, and it was rather alarming at times. My 325i Sport however, takes much more effort, even in the wet. LSD is a major factor in this.

aye, over on its roof so you can weld it!hammoj28 wrote:hehe, my 1litre mini could spin actually.
I find the whole sliding away form junctins is entirely dependant on tires
a 316 with tesco value tires in 165/14 or whatever will be more likely to light up than a 325i with a set of proxies on it

I've never tried to spin the wheels on my e30's , tyres aint cheap!
I keep accidentally doing it on my toyota Carina, 2.0litre, front wheel drive. My 1.0L nissan micra used to do it occasionally too.
Oh its taking a long time to get used to Front Wheel Drive!

Like Stu said, you can make any car do it if you try!!!!!!!!!!! Although i don't think i ever got wheelspin out of the diesel land rover discovery i used for a bit!!
Funniest was an old rear drive volvo - people used to crap 'emselves and move out the way very quickly when they saw that wheelspin away and then go sideways round the roundabout!!!!!!!!

another funny story with the good old Volvo.......miniblob wrote:Funniest was an old rear drive volvo - people used to crap 'emselves and move out the way very quickly when they saw that wheelspin away and then go sideways round the roundabout!!!!!!!!
I used to have a 90 760 GLE. The previous owner had converted it to a Chevy 305 small block. I could roast the tired literally as long as I wanted. I used to love the look on the guys that drive mustangs and camaro's at the light. They would rev their motor up.....the light would turn green.....and I would leave them in the dust while spinning sideways fighting to keep her in the road........classic......

I miss that car......lol

Wouldn't know anything about decent wheelspinning from the above engines, but here is a clip of me spinning in a clircle at silverstone on sunday, then leaving a HUUUUUUUUUGE pair of black lines as I set off from a standstill giving it large a fishtail slide, then missing 2nd gear like a chump
- 350 BHP and similar torque is more than adequate for this

fuzzy howabout an e34 m5 engined e30? more torque and reliability and they spin in 3rd + 4th in the dry when going through the gears
