And here's something to else to think about:
If you take out a European car recovery policy when going to France or further, you could find your car written off if it breaks down or you have a accident!
These policies work the same way as any car insurance and if the cost of getting your car home is more then what the insurance company think your car is worth, they'll write it off! And in most European countries, write offs are crushed almost immediately.
I lost a MG this way and I'm still waiting for the money.

That thread doesnt give all the details, I would be interested in hearing the full story.
Go though the complaints procedure, it that doesnt work hit them with the ombudsman. I sure as hell wouldnt take that lieing down
I dont get this at all if the car means that much to him why not fight for it.Cant be dealing with complaints procedure and stuff its all to stressfull

I own an RX7 (and I'm with Highway
) and I have a mate who was meeting this guy (and has the fireball recorded on his phone) and a few others to go to Santa Pod.
Apparently the guy drove into the motorway lay-by with his freshly rebuilt (and VERY powerful) car. As he pulled up the main fuel hose from the tank came adrift or split. Add one hot exhaust pipe and...
Car is completely gutted apart from most of the engine bay.
Got to feel very sorry for him!
Bastad insurance companies!!!

From what the thread said I think because he didn't tell them he raced it
(can a Run What You Brung Day be classed as racing anyway?) and that a T-piece was in the fuel line which the inspector claimed was for nitrous oxide (!) and because insurance companies are mostly
and will try anything to avoid paying out!

The crux of the thing is that his policy does not cover him for mechanical failures and the split fuel pipe was classed (rightly so) as a mechanical failure thus making his claim void. The stuff about racing and the NOS are not related the claim being thrown out as far as I can tell.
Still a mighty mighty shitter though

I've never had to make such a claim but isn't a mechanical failure that causes a fire covered, or does it have to be an electrical fire or arson?!

you only ever find out how good/bad your insurance company is in the event of a claim and if theyre bad its too late as they will have your money and car and they will take things as far as possible in the hope that you give up. the only option we have as consumers is to warn others of bad experiences and praise the good companies so people can judge for themselves who they want to give their hard earned to.(not to mention entrusting our pride and joys with)
personally i hope highway burn in hell.

Yeah but that means they aren't liable for the new pipe, but the rest of the car?? Or is that classed as consequential loss? The mechanical failiure is in there to stop them having to payout for blueprinted engines that stick a leg out.matthew_h wrote:The crux of the thing is that his policy does not cover him for mechanical failures and the split fuel pipe was classed (rightly so) as a mechanical failure thus making his claim void. It's like house insurance.. about the only thing short of being burgled is storm/wind damage.. and it's all 'Force Majeur' so they pukker up and don't pay out.. what a waste of time!
Ok fire is another one and they generally do pay for that..
