Spent most of this afternoon searching a scrapyard for a replacement
door brake, find one got it back home and removed the door card and what i thought was the broken bit.Fitted replacement, closed door and
heard the same horrible creak.Seems like the broken part is inside the inner wing. Can i get at this part if i remove wheel arch cover or is there an easier way.
Door brake/strap.

?? There's no part of the door brake inside the inner wing.
Had one once where the bracket for the brake on the hinge pillar had cracked away and had to be welded. Next one I do, I'll move the sunroof drain tube out of the way first!
Make sure the rollers on your replacement brake aren't seized.

Its not the replacement.Tested it on donor car firsr, seems to be the part behind the rubber grommet on car body itself.Plenty of lubrication on it s well.

You're talking about the mounting point for the door check strap fixed to the inside of the inner wing.
I take it your door makes a 'crack' sound when opening & closing?
I've yet to find a way to get clear access to investigate fully, but have managed to get a blob or two of weld onto loose ones, which does the job.

Ive had it before, like Brian and Chris said all you can do is weld it back on.
Drill the spot welds out one at a time and plug weld them back up

Don't forget the sunroof drain tube. It lies right behind where you weld!DanThe wrote:Ive had it before, like Brian and Chris said all you can do is weld it back on.
