Fcuking terrible!
I crashed my Touring about a month ago, so my older bro has given me his 190 to drive while i save up for another car...
It's 2 litre auto and it is unbelievable, shitty old carb engine which only gives 30 miles max from £10. It's white with wooden trim on the dash, it basically looks like a frikin boat and certainly goes around bends like a boat!
Th only positive thing about it is that it is an automatic with ok-ish ride and an armrest, trust me you need that armrest for when you fall asleep after driving it for 5 minutes!
Basically now I know why the e30 was so much more successful in its era and lives up to that pedigree today, it is a MUCH MUCH better car than a merc 190
As a free car I cant complain, but to be honest the amount of fuel it drinks I think I was better off on the bus lol
I'll be back in a BMW soon!

yeah im sure the high spec ones are great cars, but the lesser models like for like suck compare to e30s. my friends 320i coupe of the same year for example is a much better car than this 190.
Just my opinion of course... for someone who likes a relaxed easy drive i guess this makes an ok car. I'm guessing the fuel injected version is a better car?

I have to agree, your 190 Carb sucks big style.
I drove this car the other day and actually got out and asked Mr Taxi if he wouldn't doing the honours.
My E34 525i AUTO is so much more fun to drive - now thats saying something!
The noise it makes is just so crap.
I hope you buy another BMW soon dude or one of the 16V nutter 190's.

I borrowed a 190E from my old MD a few years back as i was doing loads of company miles, and my Triumph Dolomite wasn't up to it!
The Merc' was the worst car i had ever driven, the Dolomite felt good compared to it!
I haven't got enough time or patience to write what was wrong with it, but it put me off Mercedes for a long long time....
I'm sure the Evo 2 is a much better car...

I was lookin at a 190 before I bought my e30, the only thing that puts me off is the Manuals are supposedly crap.

Superb town car with that suspension and auto box, they take the strain out of all those potholes so you can have a nice snooze
I think the Merc would be a better choice for a relaxed cruise if you had a convertable

mate of mine had a F plate 190 2.6 he ran for a few years, went in it once, it did have a bit of a bouncy castle ride compared to my E30 (which he had previously owned) and the interior felt a lot more dated than the E30.
The Merc had done 175K miles but was still holding it all togther very very well.
Merc manual boxes are shite, very agricultural.
I've still always had a soft spot for the 190 merc though and recently had thoughs about getting hold of a cheap one and then getting a shabby 500SEL off ebay and getting the V8 in there and the brakes too, would defo need to do something with the suspension though, but that would make a good sleeper me thinks

The way it was driven was 500mile to the tank!!! I always wanted one when we had it then my mate go an E30, then so did i and never looked back.
used to own an f-reg 190 2L inj manual.
drove real comfy even with 5 coils cut out lol and was generally impressed with it.

I had a `96 C 180 manual box, (yup a 1.8!) must have been similar to the 190 (no ? yes ? )
it was o.k. very very well made and had done lots of miles but a totally different car to the e30 it was just a family saloon car not really a sporty saloon car even if it was lowered, badged as an esprit (the one with the sporty trim) and had 17" lenso AMG copies, it looked cool but you would never try to race anything in it, it just wasn`t the thing to do, all that body and a 1.8? nah!
It was great for a family trip to France though !
the gearbox never struck me as bad or good it just worked o.k. for me, the only thing i hated was that stooopid windscreen wiper! that was crap!
