Well as per my other thread last week, I bought some bargain 15" BBS in good nick for £80, and set about finding some tyres, and found some virtually brand spanking new Michellin Pilot HX's on 205/55/15 87 V for a ridiculously cheap £78 for four. They arrived this afternoon a bit dusty but otherwise not a single mark on them.
Anyone ever had them? I cant find any decent reference to HX's only sport or primacy and a few others.

A good all round tyre, if your not a drift or speed freak, as are all Michelin.
And if they have plenty of tread left on them, a real bargain.

ahhhh ok i thought the sidewalls seemed a bit hard!!
They are almost new, they guy fitted them to his car but it made it too low so he took them off again a week later. Not done many miles at all.
If they arent suitable for my car then i will just stick them up on eBay for a profit!

I nearly bought those!
Glad I didn't bid against you now - more luck than judgement - I forgot about the end of the auction!

Pilot sport Hx is a good all rounder tyre, they replaced the pilot MXV3A series, good grip, low noise and long lasting.
Pilot were also in Sport SX compound, slightly softer rubber compound for more grip, normally OE on E36 M3 EVO late production
4X Michy HX for that money, BARGIN I'd say, get them on there Hannah !

they sound good to me - only a few things to check if you are carrying the bairn(s) on board
if proper european spec, I think they have an E in a circle
(take them to a reputable fitter to make sure I've got this correct)
more importantly every kosher tyre these days has the date of manufacture - it's in an oval depression on one sidewall only, and has four numbers - calendar week and 2-digit year.
so 5104 would be late december 2004, 3405 sometime in July 2005 etc etc.
The 'experts' say that if a tyre is too old, it can give-up or be too hard and so bad in the wet... what IS crucial is how they have been stored - should be cool, dry and in the dark
e.g http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/contibike/tyresafety.php
or even better this guy knows what he is talking about
http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbible ... bible.html
Having said all that, one of my cars doesn't do many miles - it has quality Goodyears on it that I bought new... in 2000, and I drive enthusiastically and it grips like stink, esp in the wet.
Your call...............

Thanks for that bit of info, there are all sorts of numbers and markings on them!
there is a code 01- 3104 - 06 but thats the only one similar to a week/year mark

There is an "E2" in a circle within an oval, then a 7 or 8 digit number, is that the EU mark?

no wonder the guy wasnt bothered about the price, if that tyre tech info guy is right, the last 3 numbers of the DOT number is the date of manufacture, its 278 so 27th week in 1998! (or 88! doubt it though)

they will be fine M8
fit them to the rims, give thenma good clean to get rid of oil etc that may be on them.
and enjoy...
as long as there are no perishing cracks in them once inflated, all will be well.
If you really dont want to risk it, I'll take them off your hands and happily stick them on my car( 7th set of rears this year )

I agree, keep them !... I had some Goodyear NCTS on an old Alfetta I had and they were 4 years old when I bought the car and 9 years old by the time I sold it and although I doubt they would have been much kop on a track after that age they still gripped pretty well stopping and steering plenty well enough for road use.. Just check for sidewall cracking though.
