Does the Dealer Diagnostics Computer work on 'old E30's'.

I Had a new fuel pump fitted there this week and they haven't got a clue.

The dealer even asked the wife for technical information, 'they were in the dark'.

Anyone had similiar experience, with dealers. (Probably not, Stupid sending it there really!)

Cheers Gareth.

Any dealership is only as good as the people that work there.
E30 diagnostics are pretty basic to say the least, and have no relevance whatsoever to replacing a fuel pump.
I get excelent service from my local dealers, who readily agree that the E30 is the best BMW ever made.
Anyone with issues with their local dealers should contact BMW GB, who take a dim view of poor customer service. The quality of BMWs extends beyond the actual cars.

my neighbour is a technician at a main BMW dealership and service centre and i always find the service excellent. just had a full stage 2 inspection, and a full pressure test on my 730i e38 and it cost me £265 all in with the BMw stamp in the book too.

i agree with brian though, depends on the type of people who work there.

Thanks Brian,

The RAC told the dealers that the fault was pump related. They even got an outside auto electrian to look at the alarm.

I was very shocked with the level of customer service, the rear bumper car was backed right into the grass. When I collected it.

For the dealer to phone my wife to say they were in the dark, was most amusing.

Now the fuel indicater on the dash is going haywire.

Haven't paid them yet and have no intention of doing so, my dad knows some of there staff personally.

Cheers Gareth.

Hi Gazza, are we talking about Benhams in Stockport here ?

I've found that the only members of staff there who have any useful knowledge of the older BMW's are Dave Woodhead and Ian in the parts department. The rest have no clue if the computer doesn't tell them exactly what you want to know.

Muppets

Williams in Manchester is even worse though, actually had an argument with one of the parts guys about the T-piece washer valves fitted to my E30 with intensive wash. He was adamant that not only did no E30 ever have intensive wash but they never had the T shape valves either and was rude enough to actually walk away and call me a liar :liar: Dickhead.

I've never used Williams since and would rather travel to Blue Bell in south Manchester.

Better to go to someone like BMTEC who are knowledgeable about E30's.

Cheers,

This is exactly the kind of thing you should report to BMW UK.

Gazza, what dealers are you talking about?

I work for a BMW main dealer, and I know the only control units that ge picked up on the diagnostics computer are the DME, and if you have them Auto g'box and ABS!

but E30's are so simple to work on, no-one bothers with the diagnostics computers at my place! theres a few techs at my place that have been there that long, they used to PDI (pre delivery inspection) E30's!!!

and what Brian said is absolutely true, BMW UK frown upon bad customer satisfaction and take it EXTREMELY seriously! when we are training at BMW UK, we are always told to be 'brand' and professional!!

so report the wanker!!!

My father bought his 530d from benhams stockport in 02 and has had good customer service they even changed his wheels when they corroded after a couple of years (BBS split rims like on glenns M5 powered beast)

If you have the time take it to Dm Performance in Pulford (Chester) 01244570917 they sorted out a host of problems on my 318is they charged £25 for diagnostic check sorted out my brake vacuum and few other bits and pieces. spot on service it's in there as we speak getting timing chain replaced good value too been quoted £250+vat it includes a warentee on the work too!

I've had similar experiences with Williams in Manchester and Benhams. The only things they seem any good for are parts (at Benhams anyway).

Williams managed to damage the fuel tank on my car when they changed the rear axle bushes. Somehow they managed to support the car completely on an axle stand under the tank. They then denied any knowledge until i took the car back and demanded answers. Got a new fuel tank eventually but had to cancel a weekend away to take the car back!

The Four Plus scheme is all well and good, IF you have knowledgable staff to work on the older cars.

Have you tried BayMoW down in Hazel Grove near Stepping Hill Hospital? I've found Chris and Stuart really helpful. The old girl is off there tomoro for new brake pipes.
