I'm currently looking at buying a 325, but don't want to spend major bucks on one just yet, just want one to have a bit of fun with.

There's a cheap as chips one round my way, but it has 220k on the clock

Is this too many miles?

And will it go *pop* as soon as I give it some stick?

Cheers for any help.

how long is a piece of string???? Its hard to say if its had a head rebuild, new gasket done a few years back should be ok, just make sure it has a solid history behind it, regular oil changes etc. Bm's are designed to run for miles an miles just look out for tell tale signs, ie blue smoke isnt very healthy, should be smooth acceleration across the rev range etc.

If it's been very well maintained, it'll go on almost indefinately (see mobil1's million mile treadmill test - not real world but it shows that just miles aren't gonna kill it!).
If it's not been maintained at all, then it'll be absolutely fcuked by now. Taking a good look / listen / smell really is the only way to tell...
Good luck! :D

find out how long the guy has owned it, than it may be a bit pikey but have a good look around his house, chances are if its a piece of sh1t and a mess that will be fairly indicitive of how he would treat his car, if its super organised etc etc then is usually a good sign, then as said drive the car, at that age and milage it will either run sweet or not. have a friend drive the car, let him boot it a few times and follow behind on a straight road. look for straightness, and smoking if it does not look right on either walk away. 325's are cheap if you are prepared to buy a non-sport and four door with 150k, plenty to choose from
