I'm no expert, but as far as I know diesel turbos don't last too long on petrol cars. They are not designed to cope with the increased RPM and higher temperature exhaust gas associated with petrol engines!
A shame in short, because they can be had really cheap!
The other problem you would need to answer would be the exhaust manifold. Anyone any answers on this? Because fancy turbo'ing an M42 at some point....

the cost of all the other parts required to make it work would be so great that the use of such a small turbo would leave u with minimal gains and seriously out of pocket. if ya gonna do it ... go the whole hog and stick a nice fat dinner plate on there.

I'd imagine it would be too small, but without having a look at the flow maps, it's not really possible to make an educated judgement.
The manifolds are always likely to be a problem unless you're lucky enough to be able to buy off the shelf, but they're not that difficult to fabricate
I thought the downpipes were a bigger pain in the arse to be honest.

Go for a T3 from an RS for a good dose of boost or a T2/25 for a lag free torque monster!!
Although I have a DIESEL turbo fitted, so I can't really say they don't work as I'm shooting that theory into flames everytime I drive mine!
Turbo is the easy part really, manifold and managemant are the main areas to get sorted before hand.
Good luck either way, boost & e30's rock!
Mark.

Aah but your turbo came from like a 6litre engine didn't it Mark?fozzymonster wrote:Go for a T3 from an RS for a good dose of boost or a T2/25 for a lag free torque monster!!

Think if it had originally been sized for a 6 litre petrol engine it wouldn't do much on the 2.5 litre.
The Mondeo turbo diesels are 2 litres are they? That'd make for a very small blower in a petrol application.

Send a PM to Ant and buy a MegaSquirt standalone ECU, fully installed and mapped too!whipsey wrote:how do i go about sorting the engine management out i've never done this before so im going into it blind lol
Just get all the hardware together and I can list that for you if you need, then pay Ant to fit,map and get it boosting!
Alex,
My turbo came of a 5.9ltr cummins train engine, running 2.5k all day, so I've halfed the engine size but more than doubled the revs, so it kinda sees the same amount of air as it did before, maybe more at the redline.
Got me some LAG.... but hit 4k and all hell breaks lose

He he, only 1k further up than mine, but makes a lot more power by the sounds of it!fozzymonster wrote: Alex,

Wonder how much yours would make if you could extend the red line a bit to 7.5k or so
