Alright folks,

was just wondering, what the exact difference was between these parts on each model of car :

1) 325i sport lsd diff - both exactly the same on mtech 1 and 2 models?

2) 325i sport gearbox - both the same for mtech1, mtech 2 and cabriolet models?

3) 325i cabriolet 1989 - gearbox the same as 325i sport tech1 and 2?

Lastly If u have a lsd diff on your mtech1 or mtech 2 325 sport, how can u tell you have an lsd diff fitted for sure always without fail sort of thing?

cheers in advance peeps :? 8)

not sure about 1,2,3 but you can tell a LSD by the tag or stamp in the case it sould read "lsd" somewhere

The tech1 has a 3.64 lsd and the tech2 has a 3.91.

Not sure if the tech1/tech2 box are the same, but I would say the Cab had a different box as standard - the sport box may of been an option from the dealer??? The Sports have a close ratio box, which means shorter 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but 4th and 5th are the same as standard.
3) 325i cabriolet 1989 - gearbox the same as 325i sport tech1 and 2?
As above.

The tag will not say LSD on it - the number on the tag will start with 'S' if its an LSD, so a 3.91 LSD will read S3.91....... or something like that.

Depends what you want from it... 3.64 will be slightly lower revving on the motorway, but slightly worse on acceleration, 3.91 the other way round.

I've gone for the 3.91 :thumb:

no the tech1 will be the earlier higher comp engine

sport gearbox are the same for both models and motorsport cabs, or anycar fitted with the close ratio box

later engined were cat prepped and were around 8.5:1 early were 9.5:1

different rads and header tanks plus a few other small differences.

Yes the early cars seem to have more "go" but theres not alot in it

both were rated 171bhp later engines tend to struggle to make this on the dyno's but don't let that put u off
