I dunno what the answer is, BMW heritage probably has a couple for reshelling historic racers etc...
Need one of the guys who works in a dealer to get the answer.

A friend of mine just sold a brand new group A M3 shell, i think there are still some standard e30 shells around but they wont be cheap.

i know you can still buy new austin mini shells as a company has bought all the kit to produce them.

you can even buy a full fiberglass shell

wonder if this would be the same for the e30...

Urrrrrr NO

The mini was in production for 40 Years
I doubt there would be the demand in the same way there is for the Heritage Mini Shells.

Also Minis rust really badily, no I mean really badly.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Most minis that are 10 years old have some rust. Minis rust badily and have been produced for years and have a cult following there fore ther is demand for shells. E30's don't rust half as badily were only made for 10 years ish so don't have the same demand for shells.

First you say it's not been welded then you say its had a bit of bodywork, what's the point Si?

All I'm saying is I don't think there will be demand for shells.

it's a joke alot of peeps know that car has more weld patches on it than i have had hot dinners but it's done 180k and most them on the limiter and on track so it's a tired shell.

He he, you get my point though, I don't think that anyone should hold their breaths waiting for reproduction shells.

My Alpina was re-shelled with a brand new body (early shape too) in 1999.

There is no VIN stamped under the windscreen area, so it must have been a new one. I know that you can still get E21 shells, so why not?

Bloody hell!

They were only £3407.50!?

I'd be so up for a brand spanking shell if they were only that much, sod buying a house!

Then again, the ropey body of mine means I worry a little less about scratching it than I would if it were all brand new and freshly painted.

Not sure how things would work with the registration as the new shell would need a new chassis number I guess?

Surely all e30's will of had some welding at some point and as long as it is done well this doesn't pose a problem.

Is there any point to this comment?

Forgot to mention, the rebuild receipt was with my car when I bought it, and the shell was supposedly £1000. 8O

Given that a MGB shell is about £3k, that's a bit of a steal, isn't it?
