A bit about me - I was an E36 328i owner previously which got written off. I learned a great deal about the car - mostly how expensive it was to run. But now, I find myself looking for a new car and E30 has been in my system for a while - I like everything about the car. I drove one nearly 10 years ago, when I did not know too much about cars!
I am currently looking to buy an E30 325i and want to know, what to expect and what to look out for. I have read the 325i Buying FAQ and still have some questions..
- Common Faults: What are they? Which ones are the most expensive to fix?
- Running Costs: what is the average mpg and what should I expect?
- High Mileage: what would be a typical mileage on the car from 1988? e.g. would a mileage of 111,000 miles be considered quite reasonable?
- Electrics: What are the common checks and faults? and are they expensive to fix e.g. windows not working properly or onboard computer not functioning? or the ariel gets stuck? etc.
- Bodywork: what should I be looking for?
- Air Conditioning: any major problems - compressor etc.?
- Parts and Service: How expensive and which one's are the major culprits to fail? What kind of prices should expect for Inspection 1 & 2?
- Steering, Suspension and Brakes: Any surprises here? i.e. control arm bushes, alignment etc. dampers
- Transmission: Does an automatic have any major issues with the gearbox?
I would be extremely grateful, if you can give me your advice and share some of your experience, and also any pointers to a 'Definite Guide' or links would be most welcome.
Thanks
