anyone know what this is all about? it's located near the ecu / steering lock area on a 1991 325i touring. the car does have a bmw alarm... dunno if this is anything to do with it though? everything seems to work fine but it's still not right!

the black wire into the black connector has been cut and re-routed onto an earthing terminal on the dash. it looks like it's then got the arse with being there and melted itself off again!

what should it do?!!!

For cars with A/C, it would be connected to the ECU to raise the RPM to 900RPM when switched on.

ahaaaa!

wonder why someone's been at it though. mine has never had aircon so i don't know what reason anyone would have had for earthing part of the wiring loom, til it melted! :?

It's a common mod for people to wire it up so that the car idles at 900rpm, it helps overcome the common E30 problem of it bogging down when pulling away.

hmmm, if that's what's been done to mine, i reckon it didn't like the idea! it removed by making the new link wire do a good impression of a fuse... a blown one!
