hi people, well i wanted to buy a 325i sport but the insurance quoted for myself was £2500 so i think il wait about 2 years (il be 25 then) for that. So i figured the next best thing would be the 318is, insurance has quoted me £990 for that!

need some help though, wheres the best place to look for one and how much should i be paying for a decent one.....

thanks.

Sorry cant help with finding a 318is but - £2500 8O Who was that quote from?

I was paying £700 for 325i sport with some mods at 21. Im now 23 and the renewal premium on the standard car was £400ish and £520 with an engine conversion.
Im with HIC 08451 290 290, might be worth a try.
Also Adrian Flux gave a fair quote but I cant find the number.

Welcome to the site mate.

Best place to look is obviously the classifieds on here. Otherwise try the BMWCar Showroom, the BMW CC GB classifieds or just search through the autotrader.

A good 318is should probably cost you around £1500, the things to look out for engine wise would be the timing chain and maybe the cooling system (my old one had cooling system probs). If the cars smooth and not rattling then the chain should be ok.
Hmm but at your age u should be able to get a sensible 325i quote, unless youve been doing naughty things :D

Don't forget your postcode and occupation have quite an impact on the premium as well.

I've got a shi**y postcode but fortunately i'm old enough that premiums are acceptable these days.

well mate its not as bad as me, im hopefully gonna be lookin for a 318iS soon and phoned my local broker a while back and they said they couldnt cover me full stop, said i was too young for a car in that insurance group, but ive recently renewed my policy so things might have changed since then as ive been insured for a year now. Wot insurance group is an iS?? is it 13?

Yeah need to keep the revs up to make "proper" progress, altho its ok mid range if your not looking to kane it. Get it chipped if you can and it makes enough of a difference, i did just before i sold mine :) Gave mine more torque low down which is where it counts imo 8)
