If the electric sunroof was an optional extra where was the switch fitted on an otherwise standard spec car?
All the front headliners i have seen have had the cut out for the check control panel; or was this used with a blanking plate?

Nope!
The Black roof panel in my iS has no cut out for check control.
I think most iSs are like this.
Switch is mounted in the same place.
