This subject will have been talked to death already but it's 2020, many years will have passed since most have already completed their builds and I'd be interested in hearing people's long term experience.

I'm daily driving a 325ix touring in Germany, Love it, wouldn't change it for another car (here comes the but) but I wish it had a bit more... Go. The all wheel drive system does rob some performance

Has anyone put major miles on a 2.8 stroker or what's the general concensus. Not worth doing, leave it alone or?

*Should say I won't be doing any of the work myself. That would be disastrous.

Thanks in advance.

Problem is some of the components available now were not about before. Like anything it will depend how well it is done.

What you use and how well it is put together will make a difference.

I don't recall Alpina 2.7 engines having any more issues than anything else, but they were done properly.

I would have no issues putting miles on a 2.9 built using 135mm rods and the Mahle pistons done by IE. Freshly bored block and fully balanced it would be a good engine, not the cheap way of doing it though but worth it. Those pistons have only been around for a couple of years so not sure how many miles have been put on them. Can't see them being any problem though.

Personally I would either do a proper build or leave it alone. I would sooner have a nicely running OEM 325i B25 than some cobbled together 2.8 with B20 rods, decked head and shonky timing.

You may not be looking at resale value but if the car has its's original engine it maybe worth getting a spare block to play with if you are building a stroker. That is what I am doing with mine.

Unless you have a really good set of used pistons and block with nice bores then you’ll be better off with a 2.9L as a new set of OE pistons are expensive these days
