I had a Crossland oil filter on my 316 M10 and when first starting from cold it would take anything up to nearly 10 seconds for the oil light to go out
I found a Bosch one in my stock and swapped it over and all is back to normal with the oil light going out instantly.
I remember having this before in my white 316 many years ago and wondered if anyone else has come across this ??
Do you think it can do damage to the engine??

It would definitely accelerate wear of the camshaft and maybe the bearings and bores also, but to say it would damage the engine might be a bit of an overstatement

It bugs me that they sell these filters if they are not fit for purpose. I always stick with Mahle or Bosch

That's pretty shocking. I've always bought Bosche or Mann items :)

Is this related to the non return valve that the E30 filter requires as the horizontally oriented cartridge drains empty when laft standing if not present.

I've turned mine around 90 degrees so it sits vertically, mainly to make it easier to get at and keep it cooler as it's no longer close to the manifold - also filter stays full.

I can only speak for the m10 block and my filter is more or less vertical but it`s strange is happens with different brand filters

I've noticed some brands state "non return valve fitted" whilst others don't.

Probably not Mart... but I couldn't say if some kind of siphoning effect could occur.. I'm not really qualified to answer this.

I know that for the E30 M20B25 the filter should have a non return valve.
