Hi, what are the differences with the manual and auto ecu for 325i engine?
If I were to convert mine to manual, why would I need a different ecu??

AFAIK, the only 325i Auto that had a 'different' ECU was the 1987 version, which had a 164 ECU as per this list:
https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php?title=ECU
The later ones like yours, as far as I am aware, just used the same 173/380 ECU.
Presumably, the idle speed increases a bit when the automatic gearbox is put into drive, rather like when you rev the engine a bit when moving away from a standstill in a manual car...

Hey thanks for your reply, from what I see on that list, it is listed as having a different ecu? 164? I mean, the best I can do is convert to manual and just see if it works hahaSpeedtouch wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 10:36 amAFAIK, the only 325i Auto that had a 'different' ECU was the 1987 version, which had a 164 ECU as per this list:

That's why I mentioned it; according to the list, the later cars just had either the 173 or 380 ECU, hence should be compatible with either manual or automatic.
In any case, a simple enough swap with the 164 ECU if need be...

AFAIK if you're converting Auto > Manual you don't need to change ECU.
