Hi guys,

I've finally got my Cab inside and mostly stripped, i just need to pull the engine and loom then i am ready to try and get it dipped or shot blasted (soda blasted?).

I'm located just outside of Portsmouth and am looking for somewhere fairly local (Hours Drive?) to try and get the car preferably dipped. The car itself is not in bad condition, however it has had mice in it for several years by the looks of things, and they have pissed absolutely EVERYWHERE, there is literally not one cavity in the body which did not have droppings / piss stains. This has of course caused it to develop surface rust in places it probably would not ever usually occur and id just like to get it dipped to nuke any trace of it.

Does anyone know or have experience in any places near me? What is the "going rate" to have an E30 dipped then etched?

Thanks

To be honest there are not many places in the country that do that sort of thing properly, it is going to be more than an hour's drive. All have risks and I have not decided what to do myself but will probably not go down the stripping road

Blasting, the media gets everywhere and the heat can distort panels, You need someone good for that, at least you don't have a roof to distort :D

Dipping gets everywhere too and I have seen a couple of good paint jobs ruined by seepage. The car needs washing to within an inch of its life after

There is a place that does more of a pyrolytic process but have not investigated

One place that was recommended quoted me about £1K for strip, £500 re-strip after repairs. about £1850 for e-coat of full shell with doors boot and bonnet.

It is expensive and you get what you pay for. But all you strip needs putting back and there is a lot of careful seam-sealing work or your shiny new E30 will leak like a sieve.

Most use places like SPL or Envirostrip but you can google the problems.

Soda Blasting Ltd, Wolverhampton, they cater for all my blasting needs and regularly have shells from places like Jaguar/Landrover Heritage in for complete soda blasting, the owner is a friend and also an E30 enthusiast so you should'nt go far wrong. A lot of bodyshops wont touch anything thats been acid dipped for the seepage reason as stated above, it gets in the seams and is very difficult to get out, can also cause problems further down the line

Thanks for the info guys, i guess ill start removing the rear quarters and see what kind of access i have to do bits myself. Its possible i could get one of those cheap pressurized vessel blasters to the few places not accessible by hand.
