Someone tried to steal my E30 last night (they also stole one of my neighbour's motorbikes). They smashed the driver's side window and attempted to force the door lock. I don't know if they were interrupted or something, but after all that they don't seem to have got into the car.
The weirdest thing is that they appear to have cut the top of the aerial off... wtf? Is that some kind of car theft technique? Can an aerial end be used to force the lock or something? Or is it just vandalism? They haven't damaged the car in any other way that I can see.

That's genuinely sh*t.
- where is your car kept?
Could be an opportunistic, amateurish car thief - or just some nutbag on drugs..
They probably thought they can use the aerial to get into the car.

Car is kept in a secure carpark under my building. Looks like some planning went into it, so probably not some random junkie, but the execution was flawed/bizarre:
- Tried and failed to get into my car
- Cut the fuel line on one motorbike and syphoned out the fuel to use in another bike, which they stole
- Broke into an old Land Rover which is currently mid-renovation - but didn't get very far... mainly because it's only half built.

Hideous...sounds like half cock teenagers or less than bright chancers without any real idea what to do, probably an inside job...
Hope you get your car sorted, sounds like time for a more secure lockup

Got some brief CCTV footage from the building - three guys wearing masks (covid safe!). They look young - skinny and wearing those stupid tracksuits that yoofs like. Not exactly the Gone in 60 Seconds crew.
The police over here must be E30 fans - they sent a forensics guy round tonight. It was like that episode of Top Gear...

In the mid 80’s I found my car e21 323i on bricks BBS gone, car sitting on bricks. To give the thriving rats their due they had done a really neat job. Like they wanted the wheels but didn’t want to damage the car. Police forensic came but couldn’t get finger prints cos it was to cold. To prove it they even dusted the steering wheel to show they couldn’t even get mine. The moral of the story is wait till it’s-3 and you don’t leave fingerprints.

It just shows its not easy having anything nice and enjoying it nowadays.
I woke this morning to find that my doorlock had been drilled, both front door glass smashed and my hardtop stolen.

i was a bit unsure till i tried it, worked wonders when i had a delivery while i was out, i was able to talk to the driver & tell him where to leave the parcel.
i'm keeping my eye out for an outdoor version i can hide in the bushes.
