as to do with my crash,,, i personally believe it was faint ice/dew on the roads.....
however i he has just started talking to me, after the crash,, and he says that when i was gettring it onto the tow truck, becasue the front wheel was caved in, there was alot of force needed to move it onto the truck,, he said he saw the right side wheel moving,,, and not the left.... as much,,, hence he believes the differential is what had gone wrong and not road conditions... 163 000 miles on a differential... is this possible?? i have noticed that i could "drift" round roundabouts etc easier then what was made out by many members online, with regards to an open diff... so.. whats peoples opinions on this... ???
my dads theory,,,,

fussy is on the ball.
darksounds.
come on mate. you took the roundabout/corner, gave it some throttle. back end went light. you then let go of everything. car then hits wall etc.
ive heard the "wet diesel" theory many a time, but the diff story is a joke.
not all bad news though. you will have a good time serving the parts to victims. and will soon find that it was a blessing in disguise.

in all honesty theres no need to lie to you guys,, lol im sure many of us have had our fair share of near misses... honestly wasnt going out of the ordinary,, i always give the same corner the same amount of throttle,, just slipped really badly! is it not at least a genuine possibility?? its more for myself psychologically then anything else

Was it in gear when it was dragged onto the trailer ?
If not then the only way to tell is to jack it up and spin the wheels.
For a diff to just lock it would have to fall apart internaly and that would have made a hell of a noise and stalled the engine.
I don't surpose you noticed where the rev counter was when you hit the wall ?

I used the excuse of mismatched / shit tyres to a 'passer by' after I spun (3 times) in the wet and wrote off a car years ago. The only trouble was, in my concussed state, the passer by was a traffic officer..... oops

Not necessarily mate, before i fitted the 2.7 to my car I was running the standard 4.10 small case diff on my 320i and after a good hooning around I managed to lock the rear diff. The rear wheels were locked together like a welded diff.Martinaston wrote: For a diff to just lock it would have to fall apart internaly and that would have made a hell of a noise and stalled the engine.
Upon removing and stripping the diff the differential gears had lost part of a tooth and had jammed up, although the car was still driveable it made cornering very hairy
