Quality of new oem parts

I recently had to replace the short front section of my SE skirt following a jack malfunction (don't ask). The part arrived but on fitting it's about 5mm too short and leaves an ugly gap where it's supposed to meet the rear section. There's no chance I've fitted it incorrectly as there's only one way to fit it! On top of this, A few years ago I treated myself to a new tailgate from the dealer which upon fitting was clearly about 5mm wider than the original. This caused problems fitting the spoiler and trying to get even shut lines all around. On top of that I had to drill holes for the interior trim pieces as they were missing. Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing or am I just unlucky?

Have the same on my 1987 E30 saloon, been that way for decades. Keep meaning to make a filler for them.
Doesn't look too bad on mine as the gap is inline with the door.

There's supposed to be a small gap in line with the door shut. With mine the mounting points of the longer section of skirt are visible.

Mine are a bit too wide to match the door shuts, about 10mm actually worse than it looks. of course now everything is worse.

I am thinking of making inserts. Something I had to lean as kit cars are notoriously asymmetric and I need to correct that sometimes, others are so different, such as one gull wing door being 2cm wider, it is left as it is.

So,
To take a female mould of a good section near the gap to copy by;

Cover skirt with brown packing tape and a slight touch of silicone spray and polish off as a release agent and Mask up surrounding area.
Make mould out of filler, Bondo, Isoplas, etc. of say, 7-8cm wide. (3")
Remove new mould and lay coat of packing tape as a release agent as previous.
Lay up a 2-3mm thick copy of the profile in fiber glass.
Trim to width required, clean up and slot in.
Fill one unwanted gap.
Blend in and paint.

Houtis, My E30 is being repaired by myself but lock down is stopping me getting to it until at least 13the April.
