Using a wire brush and hoover to remove the mixture of foam backing and sun burnt glue from the headliner in prep for some suede! 5 hours in, probably 1-2 to go
What’s the worst job you’ve had to do... so far?

That does look like a messy job! For me it was the heater matrix on my old M40 with aircon, collant everywhere and awkward torx head bolts that were a huge pain to get out and even worse to refit!
Everytime you idiot proof something, the world will just give you a bigger idiot.

Been in the pipe line to re do the headlining on my sons hard top but seeing as it hasn't been used for ages and is just hanging in the garage means that I keep putting it off. But I bet thats a horrible job.

If i was to do it again i would use a stretchier material as Cloggy has mentioned,,, mine was very stiff. I ordered plain suede off eBay so wasn’t the wisest about it! Using a squeegee (the flat rubber tool (i hope thats what its called!)) to get the air bubbles was good and also ensure you cover all patches with glue and take it bit by bit. You may be able to see that in the middle of my roof is a slightly saggy bit where I couldn’t get the glue too as i had glued up either side and stuck it down without considering the middle
Exactly that. Hardly any stretch was the main issue as i have creases at every corner with a significant curveCloggy Saint wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:58 pmFrom the picture I would say the fabric is too heavy with not enough flex in it. I've tried it with random suede in the past with similar results. Genuine foam backed headlining fabric is the way to go.
What have you settled with for your headliner?

I used this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3m-x-1-37m-H ... 1438.l2649
Looks and feels the part and is very easy to work with, even around the check control area which luckily you don't have! I'll be brutally honest, that needs doing again, it's grim.

It will be redone in the future, have other jobs to see to. It’s not so bad to the extent it’s making me violently ill just looking at it.
I’ll use that material you linked too, looks like proper stuff

Why not use a syringe to get glue into the pockets you missed !!Be30 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 9:20 pmIf i was to do it again i would use a stretchier material as Cloggy has mentioned,,, mine was very stiff.
