How likely are you to get pulled for black and silver plates?

I know that the rule is that your car should be 40 years old and will be MOT and tax exempt at this point but does anyone have any experience?

There is a fine line between "Look at me, I'm cool" and "Look at me, I'm an idiot".
Fitting the wrong plates is on the wrong side of the line.

You used to get away with it if you had an old-ish car with an old number (like ABC 123) but these days people are doing such stupid things with 'show' plates that they clamp down on everything.
On anything obviously 80s and later would surprise me if you get through the week.

I think it depends on what car they're fitted to.....
I've been driving around in this for the last few months, and haven't had any problems.
I very recently drove it from Newport to Bath, then on to goodwood for the weekend then back to Newport. No problems.
Its an 89, so far from eligible, but I guess it may look older than that to some, so doesn't get questioned?
I do carry legal plates in the boot though just incase I get stopped!

Depends where you are mate , I know In the West Midlands it’s not to bad tbh , I’ve had a few coppers compliment me on how much better the car looks without front plates at all ( m4 )but depends on the time and the moment
