I have a south africa sump guard that mounts on the chassis rail in the front arches, does anyone have any photos of how its fitted as it looks like there should be some welded studs for it?

It is fitted using expanding rivets. It is still available from BMW, so you might be able to buy the fitting kit for it separately.
Beware that it does decrease the ground clearance, so that in France, where every village now has speed bumps (or anyway those that have not re-adopted that dreadful priorite a droite rule) instead of the sump hitting an occasional speed bump, the sumpguard hit every one, so then I fitted taller tyres to increase the ground clearance, then they damaged the wheel arches...……….I could go on!
