So for the first time since owning my last E30, nearly 10 years ago, I'm not sure if I can recall the car being a bit sketchy over bumpy or really rough roads. I always thought BMW's had that quirkyness about them.
There is little play in the steering, which is on my list of things to do, but surely not enough to have that effect?

Would appreciate a second opinion.

It could be the lolly pop bushes are worn/cracked also worth checking the steering coupling.

Thanks for the reply. Steering coupling, agree. Might as well treat her to new bushes.
Although my mate did the restoration, and I helped as and when, things like this I should have taken into account and done, but like most things, one excuse after another, I'll do it later, money children, etc.

+1 on the lollipop bushes this is a good place to start. These connect the rear of the control arm to the chassis rail. The standard bushes have large voids in them and allow a lot of movement. If it's on the originals then these will be due a replacement. You have two choices either fit the eccentric m3 bush which improves turn in , or m3 solid concentric bush which will keep geometry the same and therefore means there will be no need to get your tracking adjusted

Also worth checking tyre pressures are set properly, if they are too low you will lose responsiveness

I've booked her in for tracking at the end of the week, and I agree about the tyre pressure, but looks like there may be too much air in the front tyres.
I was looking at a set of proflex bushes, purple ones, as I want to fit quality bushes that will last.
It's going to be one of those jobs, I'm going to dred!
Keeping her standard and as a 316i, I don't want anything "race spec"
Thanks for the reply and nice car in your sig.
