Sure I saw a thread somewhere about GZ's that fit in the footwell, in other words without too huge a magnet and depth and so on.

(for my 1990 325i cabby)

any thoughts?

I have them in my cabby footwell, tweeters and rears as recommended by Iceman to me a few years back.

As they are German you should pick them up easily in the Faatherland........

I bought these in 2012 so you will need to find what the replacements are.

Brilliant, thanks,

That's a great starting point - did the tweets fit in pods?

Yes, you need to remove the old tweeter and then the plastic ring then it will sit nice and flush you will need to use a glue gun to get the tweeters stuck in place, bit of advice if the tweeter has a red logo on it get a sharpie to cover the red as you can notice it through the mesh of the tweeter, VOE which I didn't do.

I have emailed my son to see if he has an email from caraudiodirect as he bought a set a couple of years back but knowing him by the time he replies I will be on my way to the crematorium.........

I think I have a spare set of tweeters somewhere and crossovers.

Have a look on here,

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/speaker ... e?brand=11

I also fitted GZ's to my Lotus, where better then the Blaupunkt's but still was hard to hear when driven hard.

Yeah, I already replaced the tweeters in the pods as they were both blown - but they are really crap - it's time to do something with the sound system, I know it'll never be up to much in the cabby - but now it's seriously crummy - especially the rear speakers, its so hard to find something shallow enough to fit, and when you do, the magnets are tiny and the sound is tinny, no way I'm fitting some boom box in there either.

If you have tweets and xovers I'd be interested, pm me with details if you find you have them, and they need a home.

thanks

GZ's will fit and one of the sets comes with the tweeters and crossovers, will need to check with my son as we bought a set and fitted the fronts but never did the tweeters as by then his car got written off.

If you remember the thread.

Another cosideration is to run the speakers off an amp, this is what I've always done in E30s and the sound quatlity is really good.

Has anyone here got any experience of underseat active subs?

The only sub I could find that would fit, was a Pioneer - TS-WH500A as it is a miniscule 60mm high and will slide under the drivers seat for that rear end experience!

I think it's been replaced with the TS-WX70DA but it's a thicker unit at 97mm which won't fit.

I have a Pioneer unit that sits in the spare wheel, if you get a flat its easy to take out to get to the spare. Not brilliant as the rear panel is solid but it does help a bit.

Cheers, Paul, what was the output like from the Pioneer?

I've got a sub fitted in the book, and even with the ski hatch removed it's crap. Strangely seemed far better in a previous E30, but that was using a different box.

Just liked the idea of one under the seat to regain boot space and hopefully have a better sound.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my post - I was searching for a sub that would fit, and the Pioneer was the only one that would slide under the seat frame without adding spacers and raising the seat by 2 cm or so.

I never actually tested one in the car.

Check out the Alpine SWD 1600 maybe fit it high up in the front passenger footwell.

That would look horrendous 8O

My install is as stealth like as possible, not even got a HU, so only giveaway there might possibly be anything stereowise is the tweeter pods. If there's no decent option for an underseat active sub I'll explore the possibility of mounting a sub directly to the bulkhead firing through the ski hatch.

For anyone doing this:

The Ground Zero GZIC-13X-13cm fit fine in the car, but the tweeters are too deep to fit into the pods, so you have to prise off the rear cover on each tweeter, which contains a spring that holds the driver in place - and snip away the plastic hole-through for the wires, to release the back cover.

Apply a little glue from your glue gun - better than super glue - to the tweeter insert around the edges to hold it in place, as the rear cover and retaining spring are now missing.

They sound pretty good too.

Any photos as all I diid was remove the original tweeter then I prised out the round black surround that it was sat it, the replacement fitted fine and is held in place with glue from a glue gun.
