Hey Guys,
Im looking for recommendations for an engine builder, and someone to carry out an engine conversion....
Car - e30 320i touring
Engine - m30b35
After searching on here and the facebook page, the following names keep popping up....
Byron aka Maggspower
Barry at BMR Performance
Spencer at BMP Conversions
Before I reach out to these guys, I just thought I would ask if anyone on here knows a little more about their services, and who would be most appropriate for what I'm after...
e.g Get the engine rebuilt by maggspower, and send it, with the car to Barry to carry out the conversion / Just send the lot to Spencer... etc etc.
It may also be worth mentioning, that I may need a little help in sourcing some parts, can any of these guys help with that?
Thank you
Pierce

Can't go wrong with either Byron or Barry but I can't comment on Spence as I don't really know his work but I'm sure other members will know.
/Byron is located in wales so maybe easier for you.

I am not familiar with Spencer, but Barry has done great work on my car and Byron and DanThe have both been super helpful in my E30 misadventures. It may just come down to whoever is the least busy!!

Another vote for Danthe, mine is with him right now so he may be busy
DanThe built my M20B28, and does a lot of conversion and engine builds. Everything I've seen him do is to a very high standard. Same goes for Barry and Byron, both have great reputations, so you can't really go wrong with any of them. Can't comment on the other chap, never heard of him.
I would think they would all be able to assist with sourcing parts as well, may well already have what's needed, will certainly have the contacts to get it.

Yeah agreed, add Dan to your list as well.

I think I have just achieved number 1 in the queue.....If you want top quality work, sometimes you have to wait...then wait some more. But all good things.....
He's busy for a reason.

Hi
I've had Gareth at Scholar Engines rebuild a block and cylinder head for my Tech 2 Sport. Barry at BMR will then complete the build as he is finishing the restoration. Alan Wardropper at Scholar is famous for his Formula Ford engines and currently builds many for historic racing cars - it took me a year in line to get this yesterday. So hopefully once installed it will sing !!!

There's a coincidence! I was at the Thruxton BTCC meet last Sunday week, and was chatting with a few people and wondering if this outfit was still going.HILL wrote: Alan Wardropper at Scholar is famous for his Formula Ford engines
Many years ago, we let a certain Mr Rob Collard loose in a FF with one of these engines in the back, belonging to one of the mechanics. Half a dozen laps of Silverstone later, he was back in with the engine just short of glowing red hot. It never ran again.
He then went off to the car park to drive home, leaving us to deal with the mess, but five minutes later, he was back again, saying his Disco wouldn't start.
I walked over to his car with him, engaged the starter, and found that it was cranking at about 1000 RPM. No compression and no cambelt!
Two engines destroyed in an hour must be a record, even for him.
