Considering doing a conversion on my 318 touring, anyone know which is the better engine to use and what costs are involved including labour.

The M52B28 , single vanos is the one to go for. 300cc more than any M50, and has the advantage of the much improved Siemens engine management, over the M50 Bosch version.
No significant differences in the conversion costs between the two, other than if you started with an ex E34 M50B25 you'd have the sump sorted at no extra cost.

Can't help you with the total cost, since I've never paid for work on cars.theretroking wrote:What would the whole conversion cost, thanks for the above information.
When I did my first conversion, using a written off engine donor, I possibly could have made a small profit on the exercise, since the parts left over were potentially worth more than I paid for the donor, but those days are probably long gone now, compounded by the value of suitable sumps, etc. these days .
