Hiya,

As you all must know by now I am trying to sell my touring, but a lot of people seem put of by the fact its a replacement engine.

Was replaced in May 2004, as the cambelt had snapped and the new engine has done 10,000 trouble free miles since then.

would this put you off buying and why?

Does it lower the value of an e30?

I know a lot of zoners put different engines in their e30's do you have problems when it comes to selling?

thanks

Hannah

cant see why a recon engine whould matter to much if youve got some documented proof :? i always change my engines but ive never sold any of my cars, every car ive had has been written off 8O

Yeah I have got a receipt, from the aptly named "Engine and gearbox replacements LTD" Notes the date it was done, and at what milage.

14/05/04 @ 150572, then it had to have a service by them a month later at 151,123, to validate the warranty and thats noted and signed too.

Ive had two emails now asking why did I have to change the engine, its not like anything else on the car caused it to go, so there is no reason that anyone should have any problems with this engine is there?

This engine is a reconditioned one so as such it has no service history, other than its first service about 9000 miles ago, my other half serviced it a couple weeks ago but obviously he doesnt give receipts :-) Again people seem put off that it hasnt got a book full of stamps.

Full history is nice, and indeed cars equipped with such are held at a premium, however...

When a car is as old as the e30 is getting, I'd buy on condition over service history everytime, after all Ԛ£50 can get you a fully stamped book @ my local stealers

as for the replacement engine, you have provenance it was done, and not by "fred in a shed"

Cant understand the mentality, 160K or 10K , yet they seem to prefer the former

Good luck with the sale BTW, not everyone is messer

how is it unknown milage? Ok you can't tell how many miles the block has done but does it matter?

If its had new pistons, rings etc etc does that not make it as new?

The public are a cynical bunch... even if it had 150,000 on the engine, would still be good for another 100,000
