A friend is looking at a 2 door 316 with a Webber carburettor and 5-speed box.
Un-driven for at least 12 years and in extremely tidy condition. Even the oil is golden!

What does anyone think / know about value of these?

its difficult to value a classic, but all depends on condition of the body rust is the e30 killer. check out wiki on here. I suppose if no corrosion at all and paint is good its worth 2, 3 maybe 4 grand.
if it hasn't been used for 12 years , brakes will be seized , tyres knackered and all fluids need changing.
probably need trailing away and fully checking over before the m.o.t.
the 1.6 is the least desirable model and this preface lift model can prove more troublesome, mechanically than the newer injection face lift models. but at he end of the day you pays your money and takes a chance.
