My Euro M3 should have the later 091 ECU( for late spec Euro 215bhp cars ) , but for some reason has the early 071 ECU with some kinda unknown aftermarket chip fitted, worryingly with numbers which might refer to a 2.5L S14.
So a couple of questions.
1, Is it correct the ECU's are the same, bar the chip.
2, Who can burn the correct 215 chip
3, There are lots of aftermarket chips for sale, mainly in the US, but seem to be intended for the US spec 195 bhp cars, so are they a waste of time in a 215bhp car.
Thanks

Ye, I'm always a bit wary of US chips because I'm sure they're designed with US petrol in mind. There's several companies in the UK witg decent track records (no pun intented). Superchips is one, also, the UK company who were licensed by Hartge to produce/upgrade e30s are still in business but they go under another name, so google will be your research tool there. And also, as already suggested: contact speedtouch because he'll be a fountain of knowledge on the subject.

Thanks. I'll send a email to them and see what they say. I did PM Speedtouch, but got no reply.

Yes the ECUs are the same it’s just the chip that differs between the 195 and 215 models. I don’t have a 215 chip or you would be welcome to it.

Thanks. So at least the ECU's are no different, just sourcing a correct 215 chip will effectively give me the 091 ECU.

If I was you I would have it tested on a dyno to find out what it makes now, if the current set up makes good power then leave it as it is.
