Dead lock in the driver's door is the L shaped alloy piece on the back end of the lock barrel. It is supposed to swing from one stop to the other, and be held there by an 'over centre spring'. It tends to seize on its pivot pin if not lubricated once every 20 years or so.
If a new alloy piece is required, it's only available as part of a lock rebuild kit.
